Live Blogging: Skokie's Referendum, Lang vs Romano

Update - 9:37 p.m.

Skokie's Electricity Aggregation Referendum passed, with 4,592 residents voting 'Yes,' or 71.06 percent while 1,870 voted 'No,' or 28.94 percent.

Meanwhile, Lou Lang has defeated his opponent, Vincent Romano, with 2,812 votes. Romano came in with 1,632 votes. 

Update - 8:41 p.m.

It looks like Skokie's electricity referendum is going to pass, as 40 of the 44 precincts have been reported. Of those, 4,210 have voted 'Yes,' or 71.42 percent and 1,685 have voted 'No,' or 28.58 percent.

Meanwhile, the primary race between incumbent Lou Lang and newcomer Vincent Romano seems to be closer than expected, as 29 of the 34 precincts have reported. Lang currently has 2,410 votes while Romano has 1,325 votes. 

Update - 8:11 p.m.

More results are in, and Democratic candidate Lou Lang has received 2,146 votes while challenger Vincent Romano has 1,160 votes. So far, 27 of the 34 precincts have reported. 

Also, 39 of the 44 precincts have reported for Skokie's electricity referendum and 4,120 have voted 'Yes,' or about 71 percent, while 1,658 voted 'No,' or 28.7 percent. 

UPDATE - 7:46 p.m. 

A whopping 1,550 people have voted 'Yes' for Skokie's Electricity Referendum, or about 70 percent, while 643 have voted 'No,' or about 29 percent. Only 17 of the 44 precincts have reported.

Also, Lou Lang currently has 1,347 votes while challenger Vincent Romano has 746. So far, 17 of the 34 precincts have reported.

In light of Summer 2011 power outages leaving residents disgruntled, the village is offering voters a chance to decide if Skokie should aggregate its electricity. According to the village, electric aggregation allows Skokie to "seek bids for the provision of aggregate electricity supply services to these customers, in hopes that the selected rate will be lower than the standard rate offered by ComEd."

If approved, the village will pursue competitive bids for its electric supply through the North Shore Electricity Aggregation Consortium.
