Medical Marijuana Clinic Hits Pause, Plans To Relocate

The village of Niles found Green Bliss clinic did not have proper zoning for doctors to see patients seeking medical marijuana. It's looking to relocate in Niles or Morton Grove, reports say.

The Green Bliss Clinic in Niles, which had two doctors on staff to evaluate patients for possible recommendations for medical marijuana, is not doing so at the moment.

At Tuesday's Niles village board meeting, Charles Ostman, director of the Community Development Department, explained that after the November board meeting, he looked into whether Green Bliss had proper zoning permissions at its 7509 N. Milwaukee Avenue location, and found it did not.

Dr. J. Rene Dadivas, M.D., had previously used that location as an office to operate his home health care workers, which sends caregivers to patients' homes to provide care.

However, he and his two sons--Dr. Jesus R. Dadivas, M.D., and Joseph Dadivas,  who has a master's degree in healthcare management--opened Green Bliss Clinic in October, and the doctors began to examine patients at the location.

After the November Niles village board meeting, at which trustees voted to restrict mariuana dispensaries and cultivation (not medical clinics) to a manufacturing district, and its subsequent publicity, Ostman investigated further.

He said such a medical clinic requires a special-use permit, which Green Bliss did not have. Consequently, the Dadivases are not now seeing patients at the clinic, and the green cannabis leaf neon sign in the window has been removed.

Joseph Dadivas said he is looking to relocate Green Bliss in either another part of Niles or else Morton Grove, according to Bugle Newspapers.
