New Skokie Economic Development Commission Discusses Dempster Station Area Plan

Skokie’s new Economic Development Commission held its first meeting June 25 and among the topics discussed was the Dempster Station Area Plan, which calls for more private real estate development spurred by aggressive village investment and planning efforts--the plan has yet to go before the Village Board, Skokie Review reported.

The commission is made up of many small business owners but Commission Chair Shalom Klein told the newspaper that they are not meeting “for our specific businesses” but to make recommendations that could help improve Skokie’s economic development, such as reviewing the village’s sign ordinance to improve parking in retail areas or focusing on light industrial areas as they shift to retail opportunities.
