Poll: Should Illinois Allow Concealed Carry?

The Illinois House is considering a bill that would allow licensed individuals to carry concealed firearms.

Illinois remains the only state in the country that does not allow licensed individuals to carry concealed firearms. A bill in the House could change that.

House Bill 5745 would allow the Illinois State Police to issue a license to individuals allowing them to carry a firearm. The bill also sets forth the requirements and qualifications individuals would have to meet to be granted a license.

The Huffington Post reports that gun rights advocates have repeatedly tried to get a concealed carry law passed. Last year a similar measure failed by six votes.

As the Capitol Fax blog pointed out, the issue has pitted downstate elected officials against their Chicago peers.

Opponents of concealed carry point to situations such as the Trayvon Martin shooting. In the Florida case, Martin was pursued by neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman, who was carrying a firearm. There was a confrontation and Zimmerman shot and killed Martin, claiming self-defense. Zimmerman has been charged with second degree murder.

However, advocates of concealed carry say that the law will reduce crime and that it provides for licensing requirements.

Among concealed carry advocates are Suzanna Hupp, a survivor of a mass shooting in Killeen, Texas in 1991 in which her parents were killed. Hupp reached into her purse for her gun during the shooting, but she had left it in her car, obeying Texas law at the time. Twenty-three people were killed in the shooting.

LOL OK this is all become far too boring for me. I laugh at these silly comments about the President and your childish needs to play army with your guns. Ever wonder what would happen if everyone owned a gun and could carry them where ever they wanted, how would anyone be able to tell just WHO the "bad guys" were? Wouldn't you have to shoot first and ask questions later? As far as the election is concerned, as long as the President has the strong support of women, Latinos and African Americans there will be no way for Romney to win. The polls you are quoting only sample land line phones. I suggest you look at the polls that take an average of all polls which show the President not just ahead in the popular vote but well ahead in the electoral count. Given the problems the President is facing Romney should be much further ahead but instead he has not added one single state to his side in over 8 months. Romney is currently behind in IA, WI, MI, OH, PA, CO, NV, and even in FL and VA. To win he needs to take all of those states, the President only 5 of those 9 states. Anyway I am moving on, no one is changing anyones mind here and there is really no new information to be gained from hearing the same things over and over again. Keep your powder dry men.....Im sure you will want to have all you fire power ready for when the President wins again in November and he "come after your guns" lol

A letter from an Obama supporter: "When I heard that you had a fun raiser for Michele Bachman I almost fell out of my chair. How you could support this woman who is an absolute moron is beyond me. She doesn't support woman rights, gay rights (even though her husband is gay) and is a total racist. After her latest comments about Muslims you should be embarrassed that you support this of fear and lies!! I feel proud to be an American that people showed you how we really feel about your support of Bachman and the Republican puppet Mitt Romney. He was not even endorsed by your sorry party but was the last man standing! Bachman, Santorum, Gingrich, the moron from Texas and the pathetic pizza man? Those are your candidates who represent your values? Please go take a hard look in the mirror and ask yourself...Who am I? You are a pathetic human being if you support the same values these people stand for. I just wish I knew Michele Bachman was at your house. I would have loved to meet such a worthless human being and tell her so. Cheers and to four more years of a man with character, integrity, heart and intelligence. OBAMA! Romney wins in a Republican landslide. The 2012 election will be a repeat of 2010.

Fight back: "So, from now on, don't play the politically correct game. Throw it right back at them. It's violent, offensive, repulsive, intrusive, racist, bigoted, intolerant, or divisive. It sets a bad example for the young, it violates our rights, and it threatens not only a civil society, but a free society as well." "President Obama says very strange things, especially for a guy who presumably wants very badly to be re-elected. As if it wasn’t enough that he last week went off on small business owners for having pride in their accomplishments, this week he actually told a rally audience in reference to the economy – with a straight face – “We tried our plan, and it worked.” " "He [Obama] is always right. The problem is the rest of you – you ungrateful business owners, you rascally Republicans, you dumb people who don’t really know how much worse it would have been without Obama’s steady hand at the wheel." Herman Cain Folks like Bruce Harvey, Jim Carfagno and Brian are always right. They are smarter than the rest of us. Ronald Reagan-dumb. George Bush-dumb. Dick Cheney-evil. Mitt Romney-dumb and extremely wealthy. Schulte-mentally ill. That's the sum total of their arguments. Hell, I'm convinced by that argument. And to prove I'm not a racist, I'll even tell the pollsters I'll be voting for Obama. Worst. President.Ever.
