Skokie Plan Commission Gives Mariano’s, Longhorn Steakhouse Green Light
The proposal for Skokie Commons Shopping Center, which would be anchored by Mariano's Fresh Foods grocery store, will now go to the village board for a final vote, Skokie Review reported.
Plans for Skokie Commons Shopping Center, which would be anchored by Mariano’s Fresh Foods grocery store at McCormick Boulevard and Touhy Avenue, recently won unanimous recommendations from the Skokie Plan Commission, Skokie Review reported.
The 8.7-acre shopping center proposal has 10 motions associated with the project including special uses requests such as allowing Mariano’s to sell packaged alcohol and for customers to be able to consume alcohol in the store, and a request for al fresco dining from an unnamed tenant, the newspaper reported.
Mariano’s will replace the now vacant Klein Tools, 7200 N. McCormick Blvd., which will be demolished. Klein Tools closed its doors in December 2011.

Meanwhile, Skokie is still on track for Touhy Marketplace, which includes a Super Walmart, large bank and several smaller stores. Touhy Marketplace will be a stone's throw from the new Mariano's and will generate about $1.2 million in tax revenue during its first year, according to village officials.
