Wal-Mart Complex Approved by Trustees

A massive new complex sailed through the Skokie village board Monday night, expected opening could be late next year.

The Skokie village board approved the construction of a new development near the intersection of Touhy and St. Louis Monday night that will be anchored by a 150,000 square foot Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Clark Street Development gained approval to construct the complex that is scheduled to not only include a Wal-Mart, but also two banks a strip mall and an office building. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with opening expected to be either in late 2013 or early 2014.

Clark Street landed another victory as the village board backed away from a staff recommendation that the developer put up $50,000 for possible traffic related problems on Howard Street.
