Winnetka Trustee Pleads Guilty to DUI in Skokie

Winnetka Trustee Jennifer Spinney pleaded guilty to DUI Friday, having been pulled over in September and. 

Spinney pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol, which means she must pay a $1,329 fine, be under supervision for one year, attend a victim impact panel and have a suspended license for a period of time. The Cook County Circuit Court clerk's office in Skokie said it's unclear how long her license will be suspended.

The remaining charges of improper lane usage and improper turning were dismissed. 

Spinney was charged with driving under the influence and traffic violations after officers said they saw her driving irratically in Skokie. According to the report, Spinney was driving over the white lane dividers for more than a block and was doing 25 in a 40 mph speed zone. Spinney failed several sobriety tests, the report states, but refused to take a Breathalyzer test. 

Spinney was “also very talkative, making many incoherent and irrelevant statements such as ‘I just spent an hour with the chief of Winnetka Police’” and, “You guys are making me crazy!” according to the police report. She also told police that they have “nothing better to do" and that she is "not a criminal," but "a drunk driver,” according to police.

Neither Spinney nor her lawyer, Tom Moran, would comment after the brief court hearing.
