ABC7 Copter To Fly Over Niles North Friday, Film Student Formation

Be at school before 5:30 a.m. Friday; students will gather on the football field to make a formation that can be seen from the air.

Caroline Benjamin, student activities director at Niles North High School, had some exciting news for freshman gathered in the auditorium Wednesday.

ABC7 News has chosen Niles North for a 5:30 a.m. Flyover, and will broadcast live footage of students on the football field, she said.

Dan Toy, a special education teacher, tried to motivate students to show up at the early hour with the promise of 1,200 free donuts, and a pizza party for whichever of the four grade levels has the most students show up.

Students must wear something black to create a cohesive look, and a special 5:15 a.m. activity bus will pick them up. Teachers asked students to stay after school Wednesday to practice their football field formation, which ABC7 will film from the air.
