School officials see further progress as the first day of classes approaches.

Superintendent Quintin Shepherd said after months of preparation, planning and discussions, District 69 eagerly anticipates the start of the school year with a “monumental shift” in the areas of fine arts and English language learners.

“We did a sheltered classroom last year at third grade and had tremendous success with the students in that program,” Shepherd said.

“We’re going to use our success and continue forward,” he added.
