D69 Seeks Donations for Vo Memorial Ride

The bike parade starts at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Madison School playground and end at Oakton Park.

As the Skokie School District 69 gears up for Sunday's , the community is seeking helmet donations to accommodate bikers. The event aims to build solidarity amongst young bicyclists in the area.

"This is a chance to get kids back on their bikes," said Principal Chelsey Maxwell, who's coordinating the event. Vo, an eight-yearold student at Madison School, was killed on May 21 . 

"We are highlighting this as a positive healing event for the community—Carter's family is going to be there. . . we’re also doing this for them," Maxwell said. "Even the Mayor will be biking with us." Monetary donations for the Vo family are also being accepted.


Maxwell said that responses to the event have been "very positive" with especially the "Skokie Poice Department and Village officials really coming together." A fire truck will lead the procession, while riders will also be accompanied by police on bicycles.

Businesses, such as , have also given a hand, offering $500 in additional funds to the money raised during their May 24 benefit.
