Niles North Athletic Director Karl Costello touts new stadium, weight room

The Niles North football program, as well as other athletic programs at the Skokie high school, received a boost this academic year with the renovation of the football stadium and adjacent weight room.

Athletic director Karl Costello described to Skokie Patch the changes to Chuck Pos Stadium and the workout room that was created by moving other facilities.

"We have a newly renovated stadium for football, soccer and track and field,'' Costello said. "They will be in a stadium that has brand new bleachers on the west side for the home team; a brand new press box that will help facilitate management of those contests; and on the north side, a new entrance that will facilitate movement of people out of the stands and on the way home."

A new ticket booth is among the changes that will also allow visiting teams easier access to their stands for events at the stadium. Previously, they had to walk on the track from one side to the other.

A former fitness gym has been relocated to expand the weight room, which is now more than 5,000 square feet.

"That will double and nearly triple the space we have,'' Costello said. "That is going to facilitate more athletes being able to train more frequently and service a larger number."

The fitness room, physical education classrooms and a cardio gymnasium were moved to make room for the improved weight room.

Niles North retained its entire head coaching staff for 2010-11 and 95 percent of its assistant coaching staff.
