District 219 Hires First Director of Equity and English Language Learners

Niles Township High School district has hired Corrie Wallace for the new role.

Niles Township High School District 219 has hired its first director of equity and English language learners to help look at the school system through a racial lense to see if there are areas of disproportion and to make sure everyone has access to what they need to be successful, Chicago Tribune reported.

Corrie Wallace, who has been director of Niles Township Schools’ English Language Learners Parent Center in Skokie since it opened in 2008, will take on the new role at District 219 starting in mid-July, the newspaper reported. The new role will be challenging because some 90 languages are spoken in the Skokie area, which has one of the largest concentrations of immigrants and refugees outside the city of Chicago but Wallace told the newspaper she isn’t afraid of challenges.
