District 219 Students Custom Design Vans Shoes

Niles West High School art students are competing for a chance to win $50,000 for the school's art program.

 

Four pairs of customized Vans shoes designed by Niles Township High School District 219 art students are currently on display at the Central Suburban League Art Show in Highland Park.

Niles West High School students Beata Soltys, Barbara Mageira, Nicole Neinow and Jessica Pham customized the shoes as part of Vans’ Custom Culture contest where high school students across the U.S. compete for a chance to win $50,000 for their school’s art program.

Schools received four pairs of blank Vans sneakers and students were invited to customize the shoes into four themes, art, music, action sports and local flavor.

Niles West students will wait to see if they are included in the group of 50 semifinalists. Public online voting will begin on April 22 at: www.vans.com/customculture to determine the top five finalists. The winner of the competition will take home $50,000 for their school’s art program. Runners-up will receive $4,000 for their program.
