East Prairie Getting National Attention for Government Worksheet

Many media outlets are weighing in on a worksheet passed out to students at East Prairie school about government.

After a fourth-grader teacher at East Prairie in Skokie handed out an assignment comparing government to family, the school is in the national spotlight, The Daily Caller reports.
The worksheet was called, "What is Government." It stated, “Government is like a nation’s family. Families take care of children and make sure they are safe, healthy and educated, and free to enjoy life. Families encourage children to be independent hardworking and responsible. Families make and enforce rules, and give appropriate punishments when rules are broken. Families make and enforce rules and give appropriate punishments when rules are broken. Government does these things for its citizens, too.”
A parent of one of the students in the class took objection to the message on the worksheet and forwarded it to the media.
District superintendent Teri Madl said the worksheet doesn't carry a specific political message, but instead offers a simple analogy to help children understand government's role.
However, many media outlets, including the conservative Illinois Review and LifeSiteNews have picked up the issue.
