Niles West Counselor Featured As College Specialist

He was honored as a "counselor who makes a difference."

Niles West Counselor Daniel Gin has been featured on the Collegeadmissionbook.com website, which noted he received a Counselors Who Change Lives award from ctcl.org.

Gin was a generalist counselor at the beginning of his career, but when he went on a tour of Midwestern colleges, got an epiphany and realized he could be the one to help Niles West students figure out the right college for them, the article said.

Gin reaches out to students in eighth grade, then organizes events to keep in touch freshman year, and works with them in earnest sophomore year. His biggest challenges? Translating for the many non-English speaking parents of students, and motivating students who may have gaps in their education (if they moved to the United States or to District 219, for example) to prepare for the college admissions process.
