'Relay For Life' This Friday at Niles West

The American Cancer Society will be holding a fundraising event at Niles West High School on June 8 at 6 p.m. So far, more than $22,000 has been raised. Check out the story to see how to register or who the top participants are.

The American Cancer Society will be holding a fundraising event titled, "Relay for Life" at Niles West High School, 5701 Oakton St., this Friday at 6 p.m. The non-profit said the main objective is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients and help spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer and unite a community in the fight against cancer. 

The event will feature a student relay where more than 400 participants will partake in a relay race to raise money. So far, more than $22,600 has been raise, according to Jenna Kastan, spokesperson for the American Cancer Society.

The teams that have raised the most money so far are "Team DuBois," with $4,150, "Team Antoine Dodson," with $3,075 and "Brand Team 1," with $2,495.

The top participants are: Angela Theodoropulos ($2,805), Courtney Scheimann ($1,155) and Michael Du Bois ($925).
