Hey, students! Pack your lunch, put on your backpack and get yourself ready as the 2011-2012 school year is approaching in a few days. 

District 68 will be rolling out Math in Focus, a new kindergarten to fifth-grade mathematics curriculum, Superintendent Frances McTague said. Math in Focus is directly aligned with the new national core standards in mathematics, she said.

Superintendent Quintin Shepherd said after months of preparation, planning and discussions, District 69 eagerly anticipates the start of the school year with some changes--a “monumental shift”--in the areas of fine arts and English language learners.

Kindergarten orientation will be held Aug. 18 from 2-3 p.m.

This school year, like last year, each freshman received a netbook to use throughout his or her high school tenure, said Jim Szczepaniak, spokesman for District 219. The plan is to continue equipping freshmen with the laptops so that in two years the entire student body will have access to a computer and related technologies.
