Who is Running For Skokie School Board?

With so many school districts in Skokie, it may be hard to keep track of everyone that is running for school board this April.

The February elections might have created interest among residents seeking board positions with Skokie’s many school districts this April.

Fairview District 72 has three seats open but six candidates. Incumbents Vicki Goldberg, Jeff Brill and John Del Genio will be hoping to hold their seats against newcomers Mark Sproat, Peter Gatric Jr. and Glenn Bianchi. Each seat holds a four-year term.

While District 72 has more than enough contenders, District 73 – or East Prairie School - is lacking enough candidates. At time of publication, there are only three people running for the four seats available.

Meanwhile, at District 219 – or Niles North and Niles West high schools – board president Robert Silverman and board member Lynda Smith will face newcomer. Mitchell Steinberg. Silverman has been a part of the school board for nearly two decades.

Orrin Joffe is no longer on the ballot, according to an employee from D219's business department.

District 68, which includes Old Orchard, Devonshire, Highland and Jane Stenson schools, currently has no challengers for the four seats available.  The school does have four candidates, however.

Other notable races -

  • School District 73.5, which includes Meyer, Middleton and McCracken schools, has four seats available but six candidates, one of which is incumbent Charlene Abraham. Meanwhile, newcomers Randall Steger, Natalie Izquierdo-Tsagaroulis, Sally Graham, Gary Dolinko and Mark Goldberg will be running for the first time. Each seat holds a four-year term. Kate Lockerby is seeking a two year term as she is currently serving on the school board.
  • All four seats are also uncontested at Skokie / Morton Grove School District 69, which includes Madison, Edison and Lincoln schools.
