Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

Among the nominees include a pitcher who threw a no-hitter, a player who hit a game winning drive and a volleyball athlete who 'aced' his match.

The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, April 23 – April 29:

Jake DeRousse, junior, baseball, Glenbrook North – DeRousse threw a no-hitter against Maine East, leading the Spartans to a 10-0 win in five innings. He had 10 strikeouts in the victory as the Spartans improved to 5-2 in the CSL North.

Matt Kollada, junior, baseball, Deerfield – Kollada had the game-winning hit against Highland Park last week. Kollada ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Warriors their second CSL North victory.

Nick Hedge, senior, baseball, New Trier – Hedge tossed a three-hit shutout against Niles West, recording eight strikeouts in the process. Hedge didn’t have much room as the Trevians prevailed 1-0 in the CSL South matchup.

Jen Zucker, senior, softball, Glenbrook South – Zucker gave up only two hits while striking out 13 batters in Glenbrook South’s 10-0 victory over Wauekgan. Zucker will be attending Beloit College, a DIII school in Wisconsin, next season.

Izzy Bergman, freshman, softball, Evanston – Bergman’s two-run double in the seventh inning lifted the Wildkits to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Waukegan. Bergman’s hit scored Emily Mathyer and Jackie Kretchmer. Bergman also scored Evanston’s first run after a walk in the first inning.
