Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

Please help us choose our Athlete of the Week, Nov. 28 - Dec. 4: New Trier's Samantha Stoddart, Niles North's Mariyah Henley, Evanston's Josh Irving, Glenbrook North's Corey Kahen and Niles West's Ahmad Gibson.

to make Erin Purdy last week's Athlete of the Week. The following nominees for our region's Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 28- Dec. 4:

Samantha Stoddart, freshman, girls gymnastics, New Trier – Making her debut at the high-school level, Stoddart won the all-around competition in a dual meet against Niles North with a combined score of 34.85 over four events. Stoddart also took first in the uneven parallel bars (8.6) and floor exercise (9.1).

Mariyah Henley, senior, basketball center, Niles North – After eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career last week, Henley continued her scoring onslaught by dropping 36 points in Niles North’s 57-47 loss to New Trier on Nov. 29. Henley’s 36 points tied a career high.

Josh Irving, senior, basketball guard, Evanston – Irving scored a game-high 20 points in Evanston’s 77-24 win against Maine East on Nov. 29. The 5-foot-10 senior drained three three-pointers as the Wildkits shot 10-for-21 from beyond the arc. The win continued Evanston’s undefeated start to the season as the Wildkits improved to 6-0.  

Corey Kahen, freshman, bowling, Glenbrook North – Corey Kahen finished third overall at the Cougar Classic last weekend. He averaged a 227 over six games and helped the Spartans place 14th out of 26 teams at the tournament. He finished only 38 pins behind individual winner Mike Schmitt of Lake Zurich.

Ahmad Gibson, sophomore, basketball guard, Niles West – Gibson led Niles West with 15 points in the Wolves’ 60-57 victory over Niles North in the Crosstown Classic. Gibson’s three-pointer late in the fourth quarter tied the game at 52-52 and was part of Niles West’s late comeback. It marks the second straight season Niles West has rallied to beat Niles North in the annual rivalry game.
