Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

This week's nominees are: Glenbrook South's April Cronin, Maine South's Mike Virgilio, Maine West's Ariel Valles, Niles West's Jesse Sacks and New Trier's Maddie Mulford.

Maddie Mulford, sophomore, girls soccer, New Trier – Mulford scored the only goal in New Trier’s 1-0 victory over Jacobs in the Sweet 16 of the Pepsi Showdown on Thursday. Mulford received a pass from Rachel Shellenback and slipped it past the keeper off the right post for the game-winner early in the second half.

April Cronin, junior, girls soccer, Glenbrook South – Cronin scored two of Glenbrook South’s four goals in a 4-0 victory over Oswego in the Pepsi Showdown. The Titans haven’t had much offense this season, but moved to 5-3-4 on the season with the win.

Mike Virgilio, junior, baseball, Maine South – Virgilio threw a complete game for Maine South in the Hawks’ 8-2 victory over Prospect. The junior left-hander yielded only three hits over seven innings and struck out six batters.

Ariel Valles, junior, softball, Maine West – Valles struck out 11 batters in the Warriors’ 9-1 victory over Lane Tech. The right-hander gave up only four hits over seven innings, helping Maine West to the win.

Jesse Sacks, freshman, boys tennis, Niles West – Sacks took second place in No. 2 singles at the Maine South Invitational last week. He was the leading point-getter for Niles West, which took four place as a team out of eight schools. Sacks lost in the championship match to Batavia’s Ryan Sterling.
