Bone Marrow Donor Drive

Kehilat Chovevei Tzion will host a donor recruitment drive to register potential bone marrow donors at Skatium Ice Arena on behalf of Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation. The drive will benefit patients suffering from various blood cancers and diseases who are in need of a bone marrow transplant. The drive, scheduled on Monday, December 26, will run from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

There is an urgent need for volunteer donors of every racial and ethnic background. A patient’s best chance at finding a match is someone of the same ethnicity.  Donor drives benefit patients like two year old Ezra from New Jersey. He has a rare primary immune deficiency called Hyper IgM Syndrome, and the only cure is a bone marrow transplant. Ezra, and other patients like him, needs to find a donor that is his perfect match. That perfect match could be YOU.

All members of the community are encouraged to participate in the drive. It’s fast and painless, and although there is no cost for a volunteer to join, there is a $54 lab processing fee for each kit. Gift of Life relies on the generosity of donations to help offset these costs.  If you are between the ages of 18 and 60 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need. A simple swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match.
