Skokie Runners Do Inaugural Fort2Base Lap
Contingent joins participants from Midwest and both coasts to welcome in new fall tradition.
On Sept. 11, a new tradition was born in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
On that clear morning, nearly 800 people took part in the first Fort2Base, an 11.5-mile race that started at historic Fort Sheridan and ended at the Great Lakes Naval Station. For the longer of the route options, runners used the Green Bay Trail to travel between the two points.
Two of the 790 runners who traversed the course of 10 nautical miles were from Skokie, joining a steady flow of other participants who came from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and as far away as Virginia and California.
