VIDEO: Buzzer Beater Gives Vikings Long-Awaited Conference Crown

Records: Niles North (19-6, 8-2)  Deerfield (15-10, 6-4)

Key Players:  Senior Andre Shaw carried the offensive load for the Vikings from start to finish.  He scored a game-high 21 points, going 8-10 from the field and connecting on five three pointers.  Malachi Nix also scored 11, while Abdel Nadar scored 9 for Niles North.  Senior Jack Carney led the way for Deerfield, scoring 19 points and going 6-6 from the free throw line.  Josh Schur chipped in nine points for the Warriors while Alex Sacks and Sam Sternberg scored six points each.

Key Stats: Deerfield shot 64% from the field, but only took 25 shots.  Niles North only shot 30% from the field but they doubled the Warriors shot total with fifty.  The Vikings attempted 17 three pointers as a team, but Shaw was the only one connected.  Deerfield turned the ball over 22 while Niles North only committed five turnovers.

Key Runs:  Deerfield started the second quarter by going on a 16-1 run that gave them a 27-10 lead.  Niles North started the third quarter with a 15-2 that gave them their first lead of the game, 32-31.  Deerfield's six game win streak came to an end while Niles North won their seventh straight CSL matchup.

Quote of the night:  Andre Shaw on hitting the game-winning shot - "Just hitting that shot and running down the court with my teammates cheering... that's just a great feeling.  They needed me in that game so it was nice to come up big for them and win a conference championship for the first time in 10 years."

What's next: Niles North will take on Evanston in the CSL crossover championship game Wednesday night.  Deerfield will travel to Maine South for a crossover game Tuesday night.
