Free Slurpee Day At 7-Eleven Today

7-Eleven, which first opened its doors in 1927, is giving out free Slurpees to anyone that walks through their door Wednesday, July 11. The store officially turns 85 today.

7-Eleven is turning 85 and, per tradition, the chain is offering patrons free 7.11-ounce Slurpees on Wednesday. Customers can grab a mini Slurpee from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at stores throughout participating Chicagoland stores.

Since 2002, millions of free Slurpees have been given away on July 11 and 7-Eleven estimates this will be the biggest birthday giveaway to date. Nationwide, the company expects to hand out 7 million free Slurpees, they said.

The store, which once started as the 'Southland Ice Company' in Oak Cliff, Texas, first opened its doors in 1927. It was named 7-Eleven because of its hours of operation - from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. It has since evolved into a 24-hour convenience store that's in 16 countries. The store is even open on Christmas day.
