Construction Continues on Oakton in Downtown Skokie

 
Construction on Oakton Street is continuing through November, before the work ends for the winter. 

According to the Village of Skokie, activities planned for the north side of Oakton Street between Niles Avenue and the CTA tracks include:

  • Continue replacement of curb, gutter, sidewalk and decorative brick pavers
  • Restoration of driveways
  • Continue parking lot improvements

  • Complete restoration of curb, gutter, sidewalk and decorative brick pavers
  • Restoration of driveways

Installation of highly visible pedestrian crosswalks will continue over the next few weeks on Babb, Niles, Lamon and LaCrosse Avenues. Closure of side street intersections will be necessary. Pavement grinding will occur on Oakton Street in the next week, as will installation of the level binder course (first layer) of pavement. Traffic interruptions will be necessary during this time. Final street surface paving will occur later in the project.

Installation of street lights and parking lot lights will continue throughout the project area. Planters in the project area will be filled with soil and other landscaping work will take place. Installation of park benches and waste receptacles will begin on Lincoln Avenue and on Oakton Street west of Lincoln Avenue.
