Skokie Patch Pet: Georgia

Each week, we feature cats and dogs available for adoption from C.A.R.E. Evanston Animal Shelter.

Meet Georgia: One of C.A.R.E.'s smartest dogs, Georgia, a compact shepherd/terrier mix, thrives on learning new things. This whiz-kid of a dog has a happy attitude about learning and exploring life. She's an exuberant girl who loves to play. She's equally good at chilling out with a chew toy and her people. And she's already demonstrated to C.A.R.E. volunteers how she can learn tricks in a flash. In fact, check out Georgia's starring role in a YouTube clip: See Georgia in the "Are You Smarter Than a Shelter Dog?" video! You can adopt this smarty-pants pooch!

Sure, there are times Georgia can be sensitive and unsure--but that goes for most good dogs. Her ideal parent will be one who's patient and gives her a chance to figure things out. Once Georgia understands boundaries and routines, she's a team player who will bring sunshine and happiness to her future family.

Georgia's 'Dream Home' would be one with no cats and no small kids. She might like another dog as a sibling, but it'll depend on the dog. She'll need a regular schedule in order to learn the whole housebreaking thing. Crate-training would be ideal. And above all, Georgia will blossom when she gets a chance to attend more obedience training classes. (Agility, maybe?) Did we mention how smart this beautiful girl is? She's waiting to meet you.

Georgia's Stats

  • ASPCA Canine-ality™ Assessment rating:  Green / Go Getter
  • Georgia weighs about 45 lbs.
  • No cats, no small kids--Georgia would chase cats and is likely too high-energy for little kids.
  • Housebreaking, crate-training and a regular schedule will be needed.
  • Georgia will need to attend D.O.G. Obedience classes so she can better communicate with her new people.
  • Georgia is spayed, microchipped and has had her full vet check-up and vaccines.
