Avoid Snow Parking Fines; Warm Up At Game Night and More Info This Week

Here's important snow info, and a welcome respite from the snow.

  • Park your car on the odd side of the street Monday (since it's the 27th, and 27 is an odd number), and on the even side of the street Tuesday. This will allow Skokie snowplows to get through and clear the roads. Not only does this help you avoid a $50 ticket, it avoids the hassle of having your car buried in snow.
  • Two municipal parking lots are available for residents in multi-family areas, the village says, to relocate their cars during alternate-side parking: the north Skokie Swift lot at Dempster Street and Gross Point Road, and the parking lot on the northwest corner of Searle Parkway and Skokie Boulevard.  Parking restrictions in these lots are suspended until 6 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014.
  • Skokie is plowing streets and sidewalks. Alleys will not be plowed as the amount of snow that fell did not reach the six-inch threshold for alley plowing, according to the village. It also noted that many major roads in Skokie, including Crawford Avenue, Skokie Boulevard, Golf Road, Old Orchard Road, Church Street and others are under the jurisdiction of either the Illinois Department of Transportation or the Cook County Highway Department, and those agencies are responsible for plowing.
  • Garbage collection will probably not occur Tuesday due to subzero temperatures. Recycling collection is expected to continue as scheduled. Make sure crews can get to your garbage and  recycling containers. It's best to leave refuse and recycling toters in the collection area until crews have emptied them.
  • It should be safe to come out of the house by Wednesday. Celebrate with the Skokie Chamber of Commerce's Infuse Young Professionals (under 45) Game Night at the Curragh Irish Pub on Lincoln Avenue.
