Skokie Will Hold A 9/11 Remembrance
There's lots going on this week, from College Info Night to French fashion, flu shots, rediscovering your inner musician, and more. It's our preview of The Week Ahead in Skokie.
- Skokie will hold a 9/11 remembrance Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8:58 a.m. at each of its fire stations. There will be a bell ceremony, and at 9 a.m., a moment of silence. Click here for addresses and more information. All are welcome to attend.
- Skokie residents can make an appointment now for a free flu shot in October at the Skokie Health Department. Any resident six months and older is eligible, and we're sure your three-year-old would LOVE to have a needle plunged into his/her arm.
- "Funny Old Broads" is offering a special pre-Yom Kippur ticket price on its Wednesday comedy show at the Skokie Theater. How about a break on the pre-All Saints Day show, ladies?
- Concerned about recycling? Landfills? Where garbage goes? On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) wants to hear your opinion in community discussions it's holding.
- The Niles West debate season is getting underway, and the team is rocking! It has four of the top 10 debaters in the state. Don't pick an argument with them. You'll lose.
- Are you over 50? Do you admit it? If so, you're invited to come play in a band--especially if you play(ed) an instrument or were in your high school band. It's Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
- If it involves French fashion and Auguste Renoir, we're on it. The NSSC shows stunning A.R. paintings while discussing his relationship with fashion and how his working class background affected his depiction of well-to-do Parisians. 1 p.m. Monday.
- High school seniors and their parents are invited to a District 219 College Information Night at Niles North Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Parents: they will talk about college costs, so bring pain medication.
- Yom Kippur begins Friday evening and ends Saturday evening. Here is the guide to this sacred Jewish holiday.
