This was a very successful event. The SFD, SPD, Metropolitan and Y.O.U. Spartans program partnered…Read More with Lincoln to support the "I Choose A Healthy Summer" program. Youth pledged to choose safe healthy ways to enjoy their summer by signing a banner and participating in motivational conversations about making positive decisions. Each partnering organization led a different part of the day as students rotated into their 30 minute sessions. DJ3000 of 4 Sure Entertainment provided music and pumped up the dancing, while Metropolitan brought in three break dancers. It was a great day led by the teachers, Paul Bleuher, and Michelle Reed.

Yes! The key people to thank for allowing us to come in to Lincoln Junior High is Principal Paul…Read More Bleuher, and Assistant Principal Michelle Reed. It was a very successful and exciting day for the students, staff, parents and community members who stopped by. As I mentioned to Pam, the students were all very excited to hear from Law enforcement about summer safety, bullying prevention and substance prevention. DJ3000 of 4 Sure Entertainment, the hiphop/ break dancers from Star Expressions and Bradley Jones from the Skokie Library were AMAZING and animated the students to both have a great time but also reminded them the true reason we had all come together "To choose a healthy summer!"

I am not going to blame the school for not being able to instill good behavior in 4 years. This is…Read More the job of the parents not of the school. Whether they are 18 or 88, they need to respect and obviously that was not taught to some of the students and now all of the students pay the price for the acts of a selected few. I do wonder why the prom would be held in another suburb when we have plenty of places where to hold the prom in this area without having to go to Rosemont. However, I am not a part of the administration and/or in the planning committee. The truth is that we can all make all types of statements now and point fingers to everyone, but at the least I was not there to witness what took place and I am not in a position of having to supervise and/or in an administrative capacity at the school to make the decisions that have been made.

The discipline and control in high school is for everyone there. Eventually.....when you become…Read More adults over 21 then you can do whatevery you want for the rest of your life. If you can't follow four years of rules to get to adult freedom forever then you really need to look in the mirror and start criticising that person.

I'm not blaming the students disadvantaged or not. I'm saying that the schools have failed these…Read More students.
And I don't have any kids, top 1% or bottom.
I come from a family of educators. My mother loved teaching similarly disadvantaged students in Arizona, but hated the "system" which failed them there. She talked about students born in the U.S. whose English in high school still wasn't sufficient for them to be in mainstream classes, so they were still in bi-lingual and English as a second language classes. I was hoping that with as much money that we spend on our high schools that they would provide for ALL of our students. But apparently both of the D219 schools do not prepare students to even perform at an average level compared to other schools in Illinois.
