We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! Not only are the property taxes too high biu the administrators whose salaries they pay are tooRead More stupid. Or it could just be the insurance companies trying to make an extra buck. Now let us see; should I be more worried about my mother poisioning me or someone at school who does not know me from Adam?

This probably has less to do with health, and more to do with some backdoor way to get all studentsRead More dependent on only school lunches. Then they'll set a price on that, and raise it yearly. Essentially banning homemade lunches from being brought into school, will make it so kids can't trade away their lunch to one another. Just let kids be kids. The parents of kids with food allergies, will already have schooled their own as to what they can and can't eat. Interesting new age spin at the top, that the father would be the one to make the cupcakes, and the mother only cut up melon.

Fathers making cupcakes! You're right to be offended, Mr. Zornig. First it's men in the kitchen.Read More What's next? Women voting? Men marrying other men? A black man on the baseball diamond, or even worse...in the White House? I do declare!

I couldn't help but to do some comparison between Stevenson and DHS as a resident in Deerfield,Read More since district has put up the news on the website. Operational spending per student is $16,839 in Stevenson and $20,821 in DHS. STEM ranking, #37 for Stevenson and #145 for DHS. I have been very disappointed in science teaching in DHS. Now I believe that there is some truth in the rankings.

I don't think magnet schools should be included. All the other schools have to take all students inRead More their district, magnet schools can pick and choose best students.

"Virtual walls"? Geezus... GPS spoofing is but one way around the geofence. The otherRead More is simply walking up to someone and saying "HEY *(&*(^^#&*(Y($*() !!!!!" Or use a different app created with a bogus email account... *sigh*. Sticks and stones people... sticks and stones... Walk it off and move on...

my kid tells me that his buddy who lives over in Europe has a math book that shows a drawing of anRead More obese American eating a Cheeseburger with Plumbers Ass , as if we are a bunch of slobs over here!!! Is that nice or what???

Well Oliver, I was considering a Aleve and a cup of tea, but somehow reading your post I decided onRead More scotch...I will be sure to teach my class on the freeze of '31'
Oliver P. McCracken January 30, 2014 at 07:08 pm
Local Resident, I tip my own glass of scotch your way, in memory of poor Myrtle Finkelstein!

I can agree with elementary schools being closed on days like this but the high schools should beRead More open. Are we now raising wimps?
Oliver P. McCracken January 27, 2014 at 07:29 pm
Mr. Hm, I must agree with you! Why, if I were already dead (and not just bedbound and wishing IRead More were), I'd be rolling in my grave at the panty-wastes who must be walking (or not, this week) the hallowed halls of the school bearing my name! When the Blizzard of '31 hit, did we cancel class? No! We might have lost poor Myrtle Finkelstein to the Oakton Avalanche, but we learned our reading, writing, and arithmetic! When I was but a lad and a schoolboy, myself, and the Freeze of '99 (that's 1899 to you youngsters) too hold, did they let us stay home and trouble our parents as they hammered horseshoes and kneaded loaves of bread? No! We trudged to school, lost fingers to frostbite, and still had enough gumption to defeat those illiterate rascals of Niles at tiddlywinks afterwards, by shooting our marbles with our toes! Why, if I were still Headmaster of Skokie's schools, the children would flock to school, if only for the warmth of my disciplinary paddle. And--heads of Skokie's schools today take note--I know all too well the frivolity and lack of learning that exist at the end of a school year; I would require the pupils to attend TWO extra days for each day thus far they've hoodwinked their permissive parents into allowing them to play hookey, so that a respectable amount of teaching is accomplished while the children waste away the May and June days dreaming of the great out-of-doors they're missing, the swimming holes they're not swimming in, the fish they're not a catching, and the summer sun shining everywhere except on their school-ditching and unlearned scalps!

How bout buck the system and turn common core down completely. It is not the law yet and it neverRead More should be. Tell politicians to educate their children using common core. Illegally set up. Illegally funded. Privately researched without a window of transparency for state and local professionals and constituents/parents to see. Wake up people. We're not far enough behind to get dumber. Did that make any sense? No. Good. Thats exactly how common core will teach your kid how to do basic math. While rewriting the theory of evolution in a manner they believe kindergartners can understand. And while the child is attempting to learn this new theory, eye movement cameras, facial recognition cameras, and pressire sensitive (computer) mice with psychoanalyze them to hopefully get a better idea of how they learn. Thanks Bill and Melinda Gates for your impeccable contribution to American Education. Thanks to your billions in (tax exempt and not on file for viewing by public records laws) research, children are being piloted right now with just the first round of testing. This isnt, IOWA or MCAS or SAT, when this is nationally implemented as "The Gold Standard" it will be too late. All funding from the government, yes federal tax revenue that should be put in education, will be tied into the common core system of square pegs in round holes and its performance at that states level. Grass roots efforts are happening all around you. Trend that.

We should really ask the question, Why did the Niles North Principal resign this summer with noRead More warning. The Board/Superintendent wanted him gone and "bought him out with a consultant deal". That is the easy way, right? Too bad, Mr. Freeman was a great principal and a honest human being.
Skokie Mike April 18, 2011 at 01:43 am
Rea: I like how you say "Too bad, Mr. Freeman *was* a great principal and a honest humanRead More being." The reason I say that is, if what you suggest is true, then Freeman was wrong in accepting that offer. No back door deals like that should be happening at the taxpayers expense. Never. If that were the case, any image of being a great principal is now tarnished. The district isn't playing with its own money, but the taxpayers. And those in charge and involved have an ethical responsibility to the taxpayers, and not their own, personal interests.

Something that a lot of people fail to consider when going to is that some of the parts may beRead More dangerous to the environment. A professional scrap car removal company will use environmentally friendly recycling methods and should be licensed by the environment agency so they are able to dispose of your car in the right way.

I think this is a bunch of BS ! There is nothing wrong with.what he was wearing ! What about theseRead More women that wear a cover over there faces here in The USA ? I.do not like that at all, there is a law, this is not word for word, but from what I remember, it is illegal to mask your face so one can not see who you are. I don't care what the reason is why these women cover there face, since I can't do it, so they shouldn't be able to ! If I didn't retire and sell my business, I would post signs, stating no service, do not enter if you face is covered ! I don't know who is behind it, what they might do or so on. So what about Jewish people, wearing there little hat (sorry forgot what it is called) would the school call a kid in for wearing that, or girls wearing that mask in school ? Don't you think sometimes we go to far ? Back in the early 80's my son was pulled into.Des Plaines police department a couple of times, and for wearing certain color clothes together, also for how his shoe laces were and what color. They told me it was gang colors, really ? He had a 4.0 GPA a geeky type of kid. They pulled him in about this and called me. Well I.was not to happy they.did this. So the next time it happened and I told him to wear whatever he wanted to, so I dressed the same way and colors as him.when I.went there. Now did they say anything to me ? Nope ! I told them look at my colors and shoe laces, what are you going to do now ,? They didn't say a word ! Don't get me wrong, I know what can happen in schools, and I was raised in Chicago around the gangs and later with bikers , so it's not like I am new to stuff. But really come on ? What he dressed as ? So what if a kid dresses like a hippie, they.going to.think.he is on drugs ? If I dress like.a hippie, am I on drugs ? People judge to much on the.way.people look, how.they.dress ! Now I dress like a.hippie, have long hair, long beard, I am kicked back. So.what would be your first thought of me, if you were to meet me ? Druggie ? Unemployed? Living out of my van ? Well more or likely one of these, if not all ? That's fine with me, I don't care ! Here is a kicker, I sold my successful business after 17 years for a 8 figure amount, I was making 7 figures a year. Own many of rental properties, that give me more of a income, own a couple of properties around the states for vacation. Now after learning this, and you meet me, you still going to think I am a druggie, unemployed, living out of my van ? Oh I have and still.do take road trips.and will live out of my.van. Just don't be to.fast to judge people, till you know them !
