SUV Crashes Into Skokie CVS Pharmacy

An SUV crashed into a CVS Pharmacy near the intersection of Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

A two car crash resulted into an SUV plowing through the side of CVS Pharmacy, 3434 Dempster St., on Friday around 8:30 p.m. The SUV was heading westbound on Dempster Street when contact was made with another vehicle. There were no serious injuries and the accident involved two vehicles, a fire official on scene said. At this time, it is unclear how the accident occurred or if drugs, alcohol played a role in the crash. The CVS will remain closed until the structural damage is repaired. It's likely the store will remain closed Saturday morning as well. If new details come in, Skokie Patch will update. -- Patch on Facebook

Status Hearing Set for Driver That Struck, Killed Skokie Man

Police say Evanston resident Larissa Lomax was driving under the influence of drugs when she struck and killed Skokie resident Alan Rubin on April 2. Lomax appeared in court on Wednesday.

Larissa Lomax, the 32-year-old who police say struck and killed Skokie resident Alan Rubin, appeared in court on Wednesday. Authorities say Lomax was driving under the influence of drugs when she hit the 56-year-old on April 2. Court records revealed that Lomax has had 15 traffic citations dating back to 2004. Some included speeding 15 to 25 mph over the speed limit while others were for "squelching" her vehicle's tires. The Evanston resident was dressed in sneakers, blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt as she appeared before Judge Lauren Edidin at the Skokie Courthouse. Winnetka Native, 20, Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle

Wilson King, 20, passed away after being struck by a vehicle on the University of Denver campus recently. The Winnetka native was not in a crosswalk prior to being hit by a vehicle, police say.

Wilson King, a 20-year-old student from Winnetka was killed early this morning after being hit by a car on the western edge of the University of Denver campus, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.  According to the Denver medical examiner's office, King was struck by a vehicle while walking, the Tribune article said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  According to a Facebook page that appears to belong to Wilson King, he graduated from New Trier High School in 2011.  Denver police said that King walked into traffic as he tried to cross the street, the Denver Post reported. He was not in a crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene. It was not clear whether the driver would face charges in the …

Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Auto in Skokie

A Skokie resident was pronounced dead following an accident at Main Street and Skokie Boulevard on Tuesday. He has been identified as Alan Rubin, 57.

The man has been identified as Alan Rubin, of Skokie.   A vehicle heading southbound on Skokie Boulevard attempting to head east on Main Street struck struck Rubin on Tuesday at approximately 3:30 p.m., police said. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston to treat injuries. Rubin was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m. the following day, the medical examiner’s office said. UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle in Skokie

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and transported to an area hospital today, April 2 at around 3 p.m.

04/04 3:31 p.m. - Read our latest update here.  -- Update 8:38 p.m. ~ A 57-year-old Skokie man was struck by a vehicle that was heading southbound on Skokie Boulevard and attempting to head east on Main Street at approximately 3:30 p.m., police officials said. No names are being released at this time.  According to police, the accident involved one vehicle and the pedestrian. It is unclear if drugs, speeding or alcohol played a role in the crash. The injured person was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston to treat "serious" injuries. The extent of the injuries are unknown at this time. One Dead, Four Hospitalized After Howard Street Car Crash

One person was killed and four people were critically injured after a car crash in the 2900 block of Howard Street in neighboring Evanston late Thursday evening.

One man died and four other people were seriously injured in a car crash in the 2900 block of Howard Street Thursday night, according to authorities. Six people were riding in a car that was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into a tree near the intersection of Howard Street and Kedzie Avenue, according to Chicago Police.  The driver was unresponsive at the scene of the accident, police said, while four other people were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition.  A sixth occupant of the car ran away on foot, according to police. Evanston Man Dies Following Single Car Crash in Skokie

An 89-year-old Evanston man died following a single car crash at the intersection of Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard on Friday.

An Evanston man died following a single car crash in Skokie on Friday. The man has been identified as Irving Yaross, 89, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m. at St. Francis Hospital.   Earlier  (01/25) - Police and fire officials blocked of the intersection of Dempster Street and McCormick Boulevard following a single car accident on Jan. 25.  According to Skokie Fire Chief Ralph Czerwinski, the accident happened around 11 a.m. "The car appeared to have been traveling eastbound on Dempster Street and crossed oncoming traffic without event to impact on the tree on the north side of Dempster Street," Czerwinski said. Accident Advisory: AVOID Dempster and McCormick

The Skokie Police Department has issued a warning to avoid westbound lanes on Dempster Street near the intersection of McCormick Boulevard due to a traffic accident.

According to police, the intersection will be closed until further notice. The department also asked drivers to avoid this area. Drivers Survive Serious Head on Collision

An entire block of Gross Point Road in Skokie was sealed off by police following a serious head-on collision on Tuesday around 3:23 p.m.

Two drivers survived a serious head-on crash near the intersection of Gross Point Road and Suffield Court on Tuesday around 3:23 p.m. According to an eye witness, a woman travelling southbound on Gross Point Road merged into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle travelling northbound, or towards Church Street. The accident occurred at 3:23 p.m. and ambulance and fire officials arrived within three minutes. Fortunately, there is a fire station located down the street from where the accident occurred at 9024 Gross Point Road. It did not appear that either drivers sustained serious or life threatening injuries. No further information is available at this time. Senior Struck By Car in Skokie, Killed

An 84-year-old man was struck by a vehicle outside Niles North High School on Tuesday around 3 p.m.

UPDATE - 10/03 6:12 a.m. - See our update here  An 84-year-old man was killed just outside Niles North High School on Oct. 2 around 3 p.m., police said. The victim was identified as Leon Goldberg, according to the Chicago Tribune. Goldberg is not affiliated with the high school.  He was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to North Shore University Health System in Evanston. Police responded to a traffic crash at Lawler Avenue and Grant Street after a vehicle struck a pedestrian walking eastbound across Lawler Avenue, in front of Niles North High School, police said. However, for pedestrian right-of-way a crosswalk is defined as either a marked crosswalk or an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection. So, if this was at "Lawler and Grant" as the article states (wherever Grant is) then it was within a crosswalk.   more ›
