I’m sweet, kind and sensitive—but also sometimes a little clueless about my own strength and size. My puppy-like attitude will make you laugh while you watch me learn and mature. I can be very attentive one minute, then off investigating some sound or smell the next. I love to play and need lots of toys or tennis balls. Sometimes other dogs confuse me when they want to play, so I'll need socialization and positive experiences in that department. Nacho, a lively young Border Collie mix, combines calm and sweetness with a high-energy personality. Nacho tends to express himself through barking--he is a Dog Of Opinions and not afraid to share them, which is why he needs to be in a single-family house rather than a condo or apartment.  Nacho is also an agile pup who loves playing with toys, especially when someone's around to toss balls for him. Local Patch Pets: Tommy, Mandy & Mary

Each week, we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Tommy, Mandy & Mary are truly animal orphans. The trio lived with a wonderful gentleman for many years, who loved them dearly. When their "Dad" passed away, the three cats went temporarily to stay with a relative who was unable to keep them long term. These three friends have lived together their whole lives. They are very scared and shy and want to stay together because "we're all we've got." C.A.R.E.'s cat volunteers add that "the three will need a lot of love and patience, and will hide (they hid in the relative’s duct work in the ceiling and had to be trapped to get them into the shelter)." The silver lining: the three are Zucchini's Friends cats, which means you'll get a reduced adoption fee. Is your heart big enough to take them all…

Meet Georgia: One of C.A.R.E.'s smartest dogs, Georgia, a compact shepherd/terrier mix, thrives on learning new things. This whiz-kid of a dog has a happy attitude about learning and exploring life. She's an exuberant girl who loves to play. She's equally good at chilling out with a chew toy and her people. And she's already demonstrated to C.A.R.E. volunteers how she can learn tricks in a flash. C.A.R.E. dog Rose is a chestnut-red terrier mix, who volunteers describe as "a sweet, curious girl with an expressive face." Rose can be shy and gentle during quiet time, or rambunctious when play time arrives.  Rose is so eager to please that she learns quickly. She's already a good way through the Polite Dog lexicon--she knows how to walk on a leash, give paw, sit, lie down and more.   Rose's 'Dream Family' would have people (kids should be 12 and over) who can be sensitive to her shy side but also appreciate her exuberant side. The right dog companion could be great--but since she loves to chase cats, no felines or other small animals, please.
