Editor's note - Today, is Veteran's Day. The following video was recorded last year for Memorial Day. We felt the touching subject reflected well given today. Two soldiers -- each from different eras -- reflect on their time spent with the military. Skokie resident Don Nilles enlisted in the military when he was just 17 years old. He would go on to serve in the Army's renowned 101st Airborne Division, also known as the Screaming Eagles, and did several tours during the Vietnam War. He would later join the Army Special Forces and earn the iconic title of Green Beret. The Screaming Eagles received their recognition for their brave performance during Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge in WW II. Now 61, Nilles spoke about his pride …

Sgt. Rob Larson, a Purple Heart recipient, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has since gone missing from his stationed Fort Jackson, S.C., base.

A Fort Jackson soldier missing for more than a week sufffered from a traumatic brain injury sustained in Iraq in 2005 and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, according to a release from the team of family and friends searching for him. He may not have his medicine for his brain injury and could be disoriented, the release stated. Sgt. Rob Larson lives Calhoun County but was stationed in Fort Jackson. On Oct. 7, he was spotted in Gary, IN. After being spotted in another jurisdiction, the Calhoun County officials halted the search, though they are still collecting tips and remain the primary point of contact for all information coming in on the search. Veteran Bill Springborn has given 60 years to Morton Grove Community Church.
"If you need anything, you can call Bill. And he will be here in a heartbeat," says Mary Smith, secretary at Morton Grove Community Church. The Bill in question, is Bill Springborn, 94, who volunteers at the church every Monday through Friday. Ask Springborn what Morton Grove means to him and he'll say "his whole life." He was born in the area and returned to it to start a family as an adult. "I've always been associated with it," he said. Springborn and his wife Fran, 83, have been charter members of the church since it's inception, April 1, 1950. A Morton Grove native, Springborn has worn many hats in the community. He worked in a dairy, gardened for the largest greenhouse in Morton Grove, served as a medic during WWII, an …
