Woman, 81, Injured in Four Car Crash

An 81-year-woman from Buffalo Grove caused a four car accident at the intersection of Crawford Avenue and Dempster Street in Skokie on Sunday, police said.

An 81-year-old Buffalo Grove woman was hospitalized after causing a four car crash at the intersection of Dempster Street and Crawford Avenue on Sunday around 4 p.m., police said. A stoplight at the southeast corner of the intersection was also knocked down as a result of the crash. According to police, the woman was heading southbound on Crawford Avenue when she ran a red light, causing her to hit a vehicle in front of her. She then hit a stoplight at the northwest corner of the intersection. The driver then lost control of her vehicle and went across east and westbound traffic, hitting two other vehicles in the process. UPDATE: Cyclist Killed Following Accident in Skokie

A bicyclist died after a vehicle struck him near the intersection of Main Street and Skokie Boulevard on Thursday evening.

Update 8:48 a.m. 11/10 -  The cyclist has been identified as 68-year-old Robert McKenney, of Skokie, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead just hours after the accident, the Medical Examiner's Office said.  Earlier 8:40 p.m. 11/9 - Police are saying a cyclist was hit by a Volkswagen sedan near Main Street and Skokie Boulevard on Thursday around 7 p.m. The bicyclist, who was said to be in his "30's or 40's," is in critical condition, according to police. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston shortly after the accident. Ditto Sarah. Glad you brought it up. It's a "Nightmare on Main St." 90% of the time there aren't any pedestrians around. I go 25 MPH and I'm plagued by tailgaters who border on road rage and for a divided highway this is just a nutty speed limit. Car Drives Into Shoe Store

Famous Footwear is in Skokie, but the accident started over the border in Niles.

Skokie police were dispatched to the 7100 block of N. Central Avenue Wednesday at 7:13 p.m. for a report of a traffic accident, according to Skokie Police Commander Paul Weinman. Weinman said initially SPD was called to the scene because the incident occurred on the border between Niles and Skokie, and resulted in a vehicle causing structural damage to a retail store in Skokie. Niles police were called to the scene after Skokie police determined the accident initiated on the Niles side, Weinman said. Niles Police Sgt. UPDATE: Car Accident Shuts Down Dempster Highway Exit

According to the one witness on the scene, the car rolled over several times.

A major car accident on the westbound Dempster Street exit of I-94 closed the highway exit at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. The investigation fell into the jurisdiction of Illinois State Police, as the accident occurred on the highway. According to their records, it was labeled a "personal injury crash" with no fatalities. A DUI charge was issued.  "I was inside my home watching TV and I heard the noise," said Anwar Kibiwala, a Skokie resident who lives near the highway, and the only witness on the scene. "My window was by the highway and I saw the car roll over, and right away I dialed 911."
