Update - 5:45 p.m. The Village of Skokie has initiated alternate side parking for Saturday, Jan. 21. Be sure to park your vehicle on the odd side of the street tonight. For Sunday, park on the even numbered side of the street. Many businesses are still open and delivering food. Wait times, however, are high. Road conditions are very bad, with many motorists driving 10 - 15 mph on main roads such as McCormick Boulevard. None of the snow has been cleared as it is still falling. Check here later for an update. The Village will sound emergency alarms at 8:15 p.m. to remind people to move their cars. A flash flood warning is in effect for Cook County until noon Friday. The National Weather Service is reporting two to three inches of rain fell over portions of McHenry County and Cook County this morning. High winds and hails was also reported throughout the area. Another inch is expected before noon. The excessive rainfall could cause flash flooding in low-lying areas, small creeks and streams and underpasses, according to the NWS. The National Weather Service is warning residents not to drive their vehicles into area where water covers the area since the depth might not allow the car to cross safely and urging campers and hikers to avoid streams and creeks.
