Woman Charged With Child, Animal Abandonment

A Lyons woman was charged with child and animal abandonment on Tuesday. Authorities are saying she allegedly left her goddaughter and two dogs alone in the car for more than an hour outside the Skokie Courthouse.

A mother who was scheduled for a court hearing at the Skokie Courthouse was charged with endangerment of a child and animal abandonment on Tuesday. The woman allegedly left her goddaughter in her car with two small dogs, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. Joheidi Martinez, 30, of the 4500 block of Lawndale Avenue in Lyons, had her bond set at $6,000 after being charged. A Cook County sheriff’s deputy was informed by a concerned citizen that a small child and two dogs were left in a car in the courthouse parking lot for over an hour at approximately 10:35 a.m. Tuesday. Upon investigating, the officer found a female child along with two small dogs in a gold, four-door sedan parked in the parking lot at 5700 Old Orchard Road. Child Killed After Being Hit By Vehicle

A young child was killed after being struck by a vehicle near John Middleton Elementary School Monday.

Updated 9:36 a.m., 5/22 ~ A 9-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a vehicle near John Middleton Elementary School about 4:24 p.m. on Monday.  The boy has been identified as Carter Vo.  Skokie police were still on scene at 7:30 p.m. investigating the aftermath of the incident that happened near Main Street and St. Louis Avenue, about 20 or 30 yards from John Middleton Elementary School. The preliminary investigation suggests that a van traveling southbound on St. Louis Avenue attempting to turn eastbound on Main Street struck a sedan traveling eastbound on Main Street, police said.  After striking the sedan the driver lost control and struck a juvenile pedestrian on the northeast corner of Main Street and St. Louis Avenue.  The …

People fly down main and ignore north south stop signs...maybe the accident would of happened ,but if everyone was going SLOWER the car probably would not have ended up on other side of street.Like I said on another thread I live on main off the corner my house and my tree have been hit twice that I know of and whenever I'm home for a week off I'm guaranteed to hear or see an accident .Saw a …   more ›
