Scary burglary A woman came into the Skokie police station to report an attempted burglary on Nov. 18. According to the report, the woman was watching TV when she heard scratching and banging on her back door. When she went to investigate, she said she saw “the deadbolt turning as though someone was trying to unlock the door,” according to the report. The victim then began banging on the door and the alleged suspect fled the scene. Police would later investigate the scene, and noticed pry marks on the victim's door. Stolen recycling bin A recycling bin left outside a home in the 4000 block of Howard Street was reported stolen on Nov. 18. Revoked driver stopped A Skokie man was charged with driving on a revoked license on Oct. 25. According to the report, the suspect was stopped in the 9000 block of Lockwood for a traffic violation. He told police he drove because he had no ride home. Stolen auto A car parked in the 7400 block of McCormick Boulevard was reported stolen on Oct. 25. Thet from motor vehicle A car parked at Bally’s Health Club, 3220 Touhy Ave., was reported burglarized on Oct. 24. Deceptive practice A man reported that more than $8,000 was illegally withdrawn from his Bank of America account on Oct. 20. Cell phone theft leads to bogus charges A man reported his cell phone stolen after leaving Shabonee Park on Oct. 22. Upon returning to the park, the man was unable to find his phone. The following day the victim learned that $1,179 was charged to his account for multiple calls made to Cuba. Loose change stolen About $8 in loose change was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 3400 block of Dempster Street on Oct. 23. Culprits may still be at large after robbing two separate victims on consecutive days.
Forty-eight hours, two armed robberies. That was the theme Sept. 22-23. Each victim described similar assailants, noting that the suspects were both black males with slim builds and in their teens. In both instances, each suspect pointed a gun at their victim. According to police reports, the first attack happened in the 4800 block of Crain Street. The two suspects approached a man and displayed their automatic handguns before demanding he empty his pockets. They then went on to steal the victim’s cell phone and would flee the scene shortly after. Around 9 a.m. the following day, another man was robbed just several blocks west near the Skokie Swift parking lot. In similar fashion, both subjects brandished their firearms and robbed the …

Stolen auto A 1996 Honda Civic valued at $900 was stolen from the parking lot of Old Orchard Mall on July 13 around 8 p.m. According to the report, there was no shattered glass on the ground. The owner told police she had the only set of keys to the car, which had damage to the driver’s side door, clear tape on the bumper and a dent in the hood. The vehicle also had a spoiler. Medical equipment stolen A laptop connected to a bladder-controlling machine was reported stolen from Skokie Hospital, 9600 Kenton Ave., on July 12. Firearm stolen from vehicle A man reported having a pistol stolen from his vehicle that was parked in the 7300 block of Linder Avenue on June 26. According to the report, the victim was working when his supervisor informed him that his auto door was ajar. On first inspection, he didn't notice anything missing. However, when he returned home later that day, he discovered his handgun gone but no other items were missing. It is not illegal to travel with a firearm in Illinois. According to state law, the weapon and bullet clip must be kept apart and stored away from each other when in transit. Shoplifting at Macy’s Shandora Lynn Johnson, 18, of the 700 block of Mulford Avenue in Evanston, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft on June 12 around 7 p.m. According to the report, Johnson and a friend, whose name was withheld because she is a juvenile, were allegedly caught on a security camera trying to conceal about $70 worth of clothing at the Macy’s store in Old Orchard Mall. Johnson’s court date is July 12; her friend was referred to detectives for a follow up and later released to her mother. -- A 16-year-old boy was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after an incident at Old Orchard Mall on June 14. Burglary Police responded to a burglary in the 5100 block of Touhy Avenue on June 7 around 5 p.m. According to the report, a residential garage had been broken into and at least $2,000 in tools and a charcoal grill, valued at $60, were taken.
