Adopt Me: Reed Will Steal Your Heart

Each week we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Reed is a dog among dogs, one who will steal your heart in an instant. He's a gentle, sweet and affectionate boy with a kind heart. "I'm polite and patient, and never rude," Reed would say if he could talk. "I'm fairly quiet, since I prefer to listen to all that is going on so I can better learn and understand. I'm very adaptable and agreeable, too. Beside human company, my favorite things are treats. I'll do almost anything for a treat, which makes me highly trainable and one who enjoys training. If you're looking for a very handsome guy with a positive attitude to complete your life, I’m the one for you!" Reed's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Reed? Please come to C.A.R.E., 2310 Oakton St., Evanston, to meet Reed and speak to an adoption …

Adopt Me: Tapioca the Creamy White Feline

Skokie Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Snowy white Tapioca has a sad story, but with a soon-to-be-happy ending. Tapioca ended up at C.A.R.E. after being thrown from a car in his carrier--despite being, say C.A.R.E. volunteers, "the nicest, sweetest cat around." "I shook it all off and have opened my heart to the nice volunteers at C.A.R.E.," says Tapioca. "I get lots of compliments on my one blue eye and one amber eye. I'm lovable and like being petted and playing with all kinds of toys! Come to the shelter to meet me and to give me a chance at a great life with a new family." Tapioca's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Tapioca? Please come to C.A.R.E., 2310 Oakton St., Evanston, to meet Tapioca and speak to an adoption counselor. Holiday adoption hours for Christmas week will be …

Adopt Adorable Adelle, A Cat With Gravitasse

Each week, we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Hi! My name is Adelle. People tell me I have the most adorable face. I'm a curvy girl who is very happy and calm. I love investigating new places and being held and loved. I enjoy playing with wand toys, but you need to place them near me for me to lazily swat. I believe in putting out the minimum effort for exercise! (Although I hope you'll help me lose some weight.) I hope you'll come soon to meet me at C.A.R.E., and maybe bring me home with you. I'll purr purr purr my gratitude and happiness. Adelle's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Angie? Please come to C.A.R.E., 2310 Oakton St., Evanston, to meet Adelle and speak to an adoption counselor. Adoption hours are Monday through Thursday, 6-8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, noon-3:30 p.m. 'Like' C.A.…

Adopt ME: Angie, an Angel In Disguise

Each week, we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Some cats are mooches for attention. Other cats, like C.A.R.E. cat Angie, prefer to call the shots. Angie, a striking, "Rubenesque" tortie/calico mix, has been living at C.A.R.E. for more than a year now. She doesn't seem to be a fan of other cats, but she appears to be okay with dogs who are polite to her. But Angie loves people. If you sit down, Angie will make a beeline for your lap and some cuddles.  That said, Angie is a cat who expects respect. She can be quite opinionated and talkative, as C.A.R.E. volunteers have noted. If you do something that she doesn't appreciate (like trying to pet her tummy) she'll let you know she doesn't like it. Angie shines when it comes to supervising. She's in her element when hanging out in the C.A.R.E…

Meet Jupiter: A "Jumpin' Jehosaphat" of a Cat

Each week we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Of all the high-jumping cats at C.A.R.E., tuxedo kitten Jupiter is the one that shelter volunteers are convinced has springs in his little legs. Jupiter loves to play and chase and play some more. Here's what Jupiter has to say for himself (if he could talk!): "I have a little black heart on my nose and BIG FEET. They say I may end up being a big kitty when I'm fully grown, so I'm eating a lot to get big and strong. I do get a little timid in new situations until I've figured everything out, then once I get comfortable, I'll take over! I love playing and interactive toys are my favorite. I'll jump really high for a cat dancer or fleece or feather wand! Come to the shelter to see for yourself!" Jupiter's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Jupiter? …

Bebe & Paka--C.A.R.E.'s Showstopping Duo, The Fantastic Felines

Each week we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

When C.A.R.E. pair Bebe & Paka, kitten siblings extraordinaire, were brought to Pet Supplies Plus in Morton Grove by a C.A.R.E. volunteer for an outreach event last week, nearly everyone who passed by the table stopped to exclaim at the cats' beauty and poise. Bebe & Paka are friendly, well-rounded, outgoing kitties who will add fun and beauty to your life. Paka, the lynx-point Siamese mix, loves to hunt toys, ambush and live up to her beautiful tiger markings. Bebe, the tortoiseshell, is  more laid back, but also loves to pounce and have fun. "We are extremely beautiful - outside and in! Please come meet us!" say Bebe & Paka. Bebe & Paka's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Bebe & Paka? Please come to C.A.R.E., 2310 Oakton St., Evanston, to meet …

Superdog Tess, Ready For Adoption

Each week, we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Tess is a smart, young, friendly terrier mix available for adoption at C.A.R.E. Tess, who looks very much like an American Bulldog, has this to say about herself: "I’m so cute that I’ll probably always look young, but don’t be fooled. I do everything full throttle--play, work and love. No matter what you want to do, I’ll be right there with 110% commitment. "When it’s time for training, I’m ready, willing and able. Come playtime, count me in. And at the end of the day when it’s time to relax, I’ll be there to snuggle up close to you. I’m a perfect balance of smart, curious, athletic and gentle. If you’re ready to work with my young heart, eager mind and energetic body, let’s start now! Time’s a-wasting!" Tess would make a great dog for …

Meet Angie, Office Cat Extraordinaire

Each week, we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

C.A.R.E. cat Angie, a striking, Rubenesque tortie/calico mix, arrived at C.A.R.E. due to a disagreement between her and the other resident cats. But she loves people. If you sit down, Angie will make a beeline for your lap and some cuddles. Angie shines when it comes to supervising. She's in her element when hanging out in the C.A.R.E. office--which she does nearly every evening when C.A.R.E. volunteers are around. That said, Angie is a cat who expects a little respect. She has her own opinions about things, as C.A.R.E. volunteers have noted. If you do something that she doesn't appreciate (like trying to pet her tummy) she'll let you know she doesn't like it. But when it comes to keeping a chair or a lap warm, there's no better cat than …

Skokie Patch Pet: Georgia

Each week, we feature cats and dogs available for adoption from C.A.R.E. Evanston Animal Shelter.

Meet Georgia: One of C.A.R.E.'s smartest dogs, Georgia, a compact shepherd/terrier mix, thrives on learning new things. This whiz-kid of a dog has a happy attitude about learning and exploring life. She's an exuberant girl who loves to play. She's equally good at chilling out with a chew toy and her people. And she's already demonstrated to C.A.R.E. volunteers how she can learn tricks in a flash. In fact, check out Georgia's starring role in a YouTube clip: See Georgia in the "Are You Smarter Than a Shelter Dog?" video! You can adopt this smarty-pants pooch! Sure, there are times Georgia can be sensitive and unsure--but that goes for most good dogs. Her ideal parent will be one who's patient and gives her a chance to figure things out. …

Skokie Patch Pet: Rose

Each week, we feature cats and dogs available for adoption from C.A.R.E. Evanston Animal Shelter.

C.A.R.E. dog Rose is a chestnut-red terrier mix, who volunteers describe as "a sweet, curious girl with an expressive face." Rose can be shy and gentle during quiet time, or rambunctious when play time arrives.  Rose is so eager to please that she learns quickly. She's already a good way through the Polite Dog lexicon--she knows how to walk on a leash, give paw, sit, lie down and more.   Rose's 'Dream Family' would have people (kids should be 12 and over) who can be sensitive to her shy side but also appreciate her exuberant side. The right dog companion could be great--but since she loves to chase cats, no felines or other small animals, please. With a little guidance and a lot of love, Rose will be an affectionate and steadfast companion…
