Skokie Firefighters Respond to Blaze at Church and Crawford

More than a dozen firefighters were on scene as they put out a two story fire near the intersection of Church Street and Crawford Avenue on Wednesday around 4:45 p.m.

Johnson Shino walked into Anuyu Hair Studio, 4015 Church St., expecting to get a haircut. Instead, he saw a lot of smoke and a whole lot of firefighters. "There was no 'boom,'" Shino said making a gesture with his hands. "Only smoke. It was very quiet" At about 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, smoke from a first floor business caused an entire building to be shutdown and evacuated. Windows of a second floor apartment unit were busted out and the smell of smoke was faint in the air. An office next to the hair salon showcased wet carpet from the water used to put out the blaze above. There were at least four firetrucks on scene.  A Skokie Fire Department official said there were no serious injuries. He also added that no one was transported to the …

Broadview Hair Cuttery Robbed at Gunpoint

Another hair salon was robbed yesterday, but this time in Broadview. The Hair Cuttery robbery is the latest hair salon in the Chicago area to be robbed.

A Hair Cuttery in Broadview was robbed on Wednesday morning, according to a stylist at the salon. The man entered the salon at 118 Broadview Square and displayed a black handgun before demanding cash from the register. The man then put the cash in a black backpack and fled the scene, the employee said. "It was the same guy I saw in the news," said stylist Lisa Burke regarding the robber. "It was definitely him." A call to the Broadview Police Department was not returned prior to publication, but Patch will update this story as more information is available. The Broadview robbery is the latest instance of a Chicago area hair salon being targeted in recent weeks. On Jan. 14, a man robbed a Hair Cuttery in the 8300 block of Golf Road at …

UPDATE: Great Clips in Chicago Robbed at Gunpoint

A Great Clips in Chicago was robbed Monday around 10:10 a.m. This comes after several hair salons in Skokie and Niles were robbed.

Updated 11:43 p.m. - A Great Clips in Chicago was robbed at gunpoint on Monday, police said. The robber entered the salon at 1235 N. Clybourn at 10:10 a.m., pointed a black handgun at the stylists and demanded she put money in his backpack. The offender then fled the scene westbound, an officer at Chicago News Affairs said. The man was wearing a red puffy coat, red jacket and a skullcap, police said. Police believe this individual is the same person that robbed two hair salons in Lincoln Park in December. The Great Clips robbery is also similar to those of recent weeks in surrounding suburbs such as Skokie and Niles. It is unclear if the Jan. 21st robber is the same individual responsible for those that occurred in the suburban area, …

Hair Salon Bandit Strikes Again, Robs at Gunpoint

Skokie has seen two armed robberies targeting hair salons over the last two weeks. Police believe the same man is responsible for about a dozen similar crimes that took place in Niles, Morton Grove and several other areas.

Two Skokie hair salons have been robbed at gunpoint in two weeks, and police believe one man is responsible for both crimes, they announced today. Officers responded to an armed robbery call at Supercuts, 3539 Dempster St., on Jan. 10 around 12:25 p.m. The suspect entered the hair salon, displayed a black revolver and demanded money, police said. The offender would soon flee in an unknown direction. It is unclear at this time how much money the man stole and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Police said the most recent hair salon employee identified the armed robber as the same man who held up Hair Cuttery in Fashion Square Shopping Mall, 9442 Skokie Blvd., on Dec. 27 (pictured above). Authorities also believe the …
