Mourners Honor John Larimer on Friday

The visitation for the Aurora, Colorado shooting victim was held at the Davenport Family Funeral Home Friday, July 27.

Flags lined the sidewalks and entrance of the Davenport Family Funeral Home as a steady stream of mourners arrived to remember the life of John T. Larimer, a 27-year-old Navy Petty Officer from Crystal Lake. Larimer was killed last week as he shielded Julia Vojtsek, of Algonquin, in the Colorado massacre at the Century 16 Movie Theatre. While Larimer lost his life at a young age, his legacy of bravery will most certainly last. “He was just a great guy who would do anything for anybody,” said Ryan Dreifke, a friend who met Larimer at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. “He was passionate, he knew how to have a good time, he knew when to say the right thing, and how to be a friend.” Larimer was a 2003 graduate of Crystal Lake South High …

VIDEO: Colorado Shooting Victim John Larimer Comes Home

John Larimer was killed in the Aurora, Col. movie theater shooting. His body was brought back to Crystal Lake Thursday.

Holding their hands on their hearts, a crowd of people stood silent as the body of John T. Larimer, who was killed in the Colorado movie shooting Friday, July 20, was brought back to his hometown of Crystal Lake. American flags lined the sidewalk as his body was escorted to Davenport Family Funeral Home by members of the Illinois Old Guard, Warriors Watch and Illinois Patriot Guard. The procession included three police cars, more than 40 motorcycles, as well as a limousine and several other vehicles. The procession began at O’Hare International Airport at 2 p.m. and made its way throughout the Northwest suburbs, ending at the funeral home. Crystal Lake Man Confirmed Dead in Movie Theater Shooting

The father of John T. Larimer said his son was one of the 12 people killed during the midnight showing of the new Batman movie in Aurora, Colorado.

Crystal Lake resident Scott Larimer on Saturday morning confirmed his son, John T. Larimer, was one of the victims killed inside the Aurora, Colorado movie theater on Friday. The Larimer family, who had spent all day Friday frantically trying to reach their 27-year-old son, received word of his fate nearly 24 hours after the shooting. "We finally heard the news at around midnight last night," Scott Larimer said from his home on Cedar Crest Drive, as he talked with neighbors stopping by to give their condolences. Crystal Lake Man Missing in Aurora Colorado Movie Theater Shooting

Media reports state the Crystal Lake South graduate, now enlisted in U.S. Navy, attended the midnight moving showing and has not been accounted for by relatives.

Crystal Lake native John T. Larimer was inside the Aurora, Col., movie theatre for the midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" when a gunman entered and began shooting, according an article in the Daily Herald. Larimer, a graduate of Crystal Lake South High School, is in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Aurora, Col., the Chicago Sun Times reported. Scott Larimer, John's father, told the Chicago Sun Times that his family has frantically been attempting to contact their son who they believe went to see the movie with friends, also servicemen, the Sun Times reports.
