Date Changed: Lincolnwood’s Mayoral Debate

Skokie Patch has changed the date of the mayoral debate so more participants can come. Read our reasoning on why we moved the debate here.

To start things off, Lincolnwood’s mayoral debate has now moved from March 26 to March 28. Last week, Skokie Patch hosted a trustee debate where nine candidates argued why they should be elected. The open forum was televised via closed circuit TV, and you can still watch it on Comcast channel 6 and AT&T channel 99. Prior to hosting the trustee debate, Skokie Patch had just five days to prepare, as the idea of holding such an event came very late during the process. Finding dates, where all candidates could attend, and securing the village hall’s chambers, along with a camera technician to manage the cameras, was difficult on such short notice. Once word got out that the mayoral debate – which is considered by many to be the hottest race in…

Lincolnwood's Election Debates: We Need Questions!

Skokie Patch is sponsoring and moderating several Lincolnwood election debates this March. Residents will have a chance to attend and ask questions. The debates include the mayoral, trustee and school board elections.

Skokie Patch will be hosting election debates for Lincolnwood’s upcoming mayoral, trustee and school board races. Voters in Lincolnwood have a very unusual election season with many contested races. Your vote is important and will affect future decisions made in Lincolnwood. The debates will be a great opportunity to see, hear and question the candidates. What sets these elections apart is the high number of candidates running for office. At the debates, each candidate will address the audience and community (via closed circuit tv) and answer questions posed by the moderator. The Chicago Sun-Times will also be covering the event. When And Where Are The Debates? All forums will take place at Lincolnwood Village Hall, 6900 Lincoln Ave. The …

Lincolnwood Mayor Has a 'Change of Heart,' Seeking Reelection

After announcing that he we will not be seeking reelection this April, Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry has had a "change of heart" and will be looking for another term. One Lincolnwood resident has already filed a complaint.

Back in November, Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry said he "served to the best of my ability" and will not seek reelection come April. Now, the mayor who has presided over Lincolnwood for the last eight years has changed his mind, and announced he will be seeking a third term. The announcement was quietly made through a press release over the holiday break. “I realized after making my  announcement that there is still much more to do to improve our village and to preserve it as a desirable place in which to live, and work," Turry said in a press release. "I would feel a deep sense of disappointment, if I could not continue to lead that effort for another term.  For those reasons, I have decided to again become a candidate for re-election […

Former Mayor, Trustee to Run Again in 2013

Former Lincolnwood Mayor Peter Moy will be running for mayor come 2013. Moy said Lincolnwood has some real issues that need to be addressed.

A first may be in store for Lincolnwood come 2013. Former Lincolnwood trustee and mayor, Peter Moy, will be running for mayoral office during the 2013 election. It marks the first time a former trustee, mayor is running against another former trustee who also happens to be the current mayor of Lincolnwood, Jerry Turry. Moy, who will be celebrating his 57th birthday Thursday, served as a trustee from 1995-2000, then as mayor until 2005. He was the first Asian American to serve any municipality in Illinois as its president, according to the village's website. He also supported Mayor Turry when he stepped down several years ago. From the Mayor's Office

George Van Dusen talks about investing, business and future plans for Skokie.

A Chinese proverb says, "May you live in interesting times." Indeed, our times are interesting – and challenging – for many families, as well as municipalities, businesses, and philanthropic organizations struggling to keep up with their responsibilities for providing important goods and services for their customers and clients. The Village of Skokie is well-known for its diversity and its tolerance of different nationalities, religions, races, and income levels.  Our acceptance of one another is one of our great strengths. The question, then, can be asked:  "How are we doing?" Revitalizing Skokie Over the past two years the Village of Skokie has confronted plummeting revenue sources by cutting expenses and tightening our budget, …
