From perennial classics to overlooked gems, here are ten specials Christmas movies guaranteed to brighten your holiday.
The winter holidays are a perfect time for movies. Frigid temperatures and snow flurries make a bowl of popcorn and the warm glow of a television screen all the more enticing. Generations of filmgoers annually return to the pictures that they treasured as children, from the life-affirming uplift of A Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life to the endearingly relatable satire of A Christmas Story and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Yet some of the finest cinematic gems of the season were never intended for the big screen. My most deeply cherished holiday movies are all contained on archaic VHS tapes that were once used to capture must-see TV long before the era of DVRs and instant streaming. Direct from my video library, here are …

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, here's some arts-flavored trivia about famous Thanksgiving movie and television scenes. Can you figure them out?
There are some movies that have holiday dinners you'd be thrilled to be a part of, and some you'd be relieved to never have to see again. Every bit of the "Christmas Vacation" dinner is pretty brutal to watch even before Chevy Chase cuts into a gross, flatulent turkey. But a chance to sit down and eat and drink with the Big T from "The Sopranos" could be interesting as long as you don't make him angry. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Patch has assembled some trivia questions for those of you that like movies and television as much as you like turkey. The answers will be posted on Friday, along with as many Thanksgiving-flavored YouTube clips that can be assembled. Leave your answers in the comments, along with your favorite pop culture …

How do two families handle a marital affair involving a father and his best friend's daughter? With kettle corn, Christmas carols, and a whole bunch of shenanigans.
“Sex. Betrayal. Scandal. Make yourself at home.” That is the tag line on "The Oranges" film poster. What it should read is, “Kiss. Hug. Makeup. If affairs were this easy, everyone would be having one.” I expected a serious, true-to-life indie about relationships and family. "The Oranges" is nothing more than a Hollywood comedy with sub-par acting and a story line laden with humor that completely overshadows the serious issues in the film. The Wallings and Ostroffs have been living next door to one another for several years in suburban New Jersey on, wait for it, Orange Drive. When 24-year-old daughter Nina Ostroff (Leighton Meester) returns home after a five-year absence, she sparks up a relationship with David Walling (Hugh …

Can the spark be restored in a 31-year-old marriage? How about in a 31-year-old marriage where the cable subscription is considered an anniversary present. Check out our review of 'Hope Springs' here.
Can this relationship be saved? We see this theme everyday whether it be on a movie screen, on a daily talk show or on the shelves at the local book store. Hope Springs brings it to the big screen yet again, but this time it is geared towards an age group audiences rarely see - the "over 55's." And though I have no personal experience in this realm, I am going to bet it is one of the most candid and true-to-life adaptations of marriage ever brought to the big screen. Kay (Meryl Streep) and Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones) have been married for 31 years. They don’t sleep in the same bed, their morning routine could be timed to a tee, and the only physical intimacy Arnold seems capable of is his cold, brief kiss goodbye on Kay’s cheek every day…

Take a break from the bustle of the holiday season with a romantic night out.
Gilson's Gilson's has steadily grown in popularity since opening in 2007, drawing in couples for organic American bistro fare. Depending on the tone of your date, you can have a casual meal of bison burger and mahi mahi tacos in the wine bar, or reserve a seat in the dining room for a meal of lobster ravioli or braised lamb shank. Either way, you'll want to take advantage of their impressive wine list by sharing a bottle with that special someone. Depot Nuevo Located in a historic train depot, Depot Nuevo was named one of the top 25 tequila bars in America by MediaPlanet. The cheerfully decorated restaurant offers Latin-inspired cuisine paired with margaritas mixed with fresh juices and your choice of dozens of tequilas. It's a perfect …
