Elbows Sharp at Lincolnwood Mayoral Debate

Three mayoral candidates squared off at a packed house in Lincolnwood's Village Chambers on Thursday night.

Questions about TIFs, Shore Galleries and the future of the Purple Hotel led to some spirited exchanges Thursday night among the three candidates vying to become the mayor of Lincolnwood. In a debate sponsored and moderated by Skokie Patch, editor George Slefo hosted a packed Lincolnwood Village Hall. Incumbent Mayor Gerald “Jerry” Turry, former Mayor Peter Moy and former Village Clerk and Library Board President Georgia Talaganis rarely held back in a discussion that lasted just over an hour. A main issue of contention was whether to designate the Lincoln and Devon Avenue intersection as the fourth TIF district in the village. Turry was strongly in favor of designating the area as a TIF. “What would you rather happen on Lincoln Avenue if …

Truth be told, Lincolnwood needs new leadership. I listened to the current mayor tell lie after lie. Throughout his eight years as mayor, he has shown favoritism and does not lead this village with integrity, transparency and honesty. I understand that politics is politics but in a town I have called home for many years, I want a mayor who truly cares for all of its residents, not just his …   more ›

Lincolnwood Mayoral, School Board Debates This Week!

We're looking for questions from the community for both Lincolnwood's mayoral and School District 74's debates. Both debates are slated for this week.

First thing's first: Lincolnwood School District 74's debate will be at Lincolnwood Village Hall, 6900 Lincoln Ave., on Wednesday, March 27, at 7 p.m.   The mayoral debate will be on Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m. Same location. Both events will be aired live on Comcast channel 6 and AT&T channel 99. The debates will also rerun several times leading up to the April 9 elections. Only one candidate, John Vranas, said he cannot make the debate.  Why these debates are important - On Jan. 12, 2012, Lincolnwood residents braced poor weather conditions to attend a school board meeting. That day, it was a standing-room-only crowd and residents grilled the school board about reckless spending. Since that day, there have been four different board …

Lincolnwood Mayor Has a 'Change of Heart,' Seeking Reelection

After announcing that he we will not be seeking reelection this April, Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry has had a "change of heart" and will be looking for another term. One Lincolnwood resident has already filed a complaint.

Back in November, Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry said he "served to the best of my ability" and will not seek reelection come April. Now, the mayor who has presided over Lincolnwood for the last eight years has changed his mind, and announced he will be seeking a third term. The announcement was quietly made through a press release over the holiday break. “I realized after making my  announcement that there is still much more to do to improve our village and to preserve it as a desirable place in which to live, and work," Turry said in a press release. "I would feel a deep sense of disappointment, if I could not continue to lead that effort for another term.  For those reasons, I have decided to again become a candidate for re-election […

Lincolnwood Mayor Not Seeking Reelection

Village of Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry will not be seeking reelection come this April. Meanwhile, former Mayor Peter Moy is seeking reelection for the village. Meanwhile, a former mayor and village clerk will be seeking to replace Turry.

Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry has announced that he will not be seeking reelection. “After careful consideration and introspection, I have decided not to seek reelection as mayor of the Village of Lincolnwood," Turry said. "I have served to the best of my ability, first as a trustee for 10 years, and then as mayor for the past eight.  It has been my great honor to serve.   "I was fortunate to have thoughtful and hard working Village boards, a bright professional staff committed to excellence, and a community of reasonable and savvy people," he added. Turry steps down as former Lincolnwood mayor and trustee Peter Moy announces that he will be running for mayor this April. "I think it's his decision, I do not know the circumstances behind it…
