Niles West Stays Steady at No. 4 in Latest Rankings

Patch's latest basketball power rankings.

Patch sports reporter Ross Jacobson ranks the North Shore’s basketball teams. Niles West, Loyola and Glenbrook North made waves at early holiday tournaments, but a number of girls teams struggled. All of the area’s boys teams were off, resting and preparing for a full slate of games between Christmas and New Years. New Trier and Glenbrook North will go to the always-tough Proviso West tournament while Glenbrook South and Highland Park will try out the first annual Hinsdale South tournament. For all teams, this is the last batch of non-conference games before the meat of their conference schedules get under way in 2012. Last week’s ranking is in parentheses. WEEK 6 RANKINGS 1. New Trier  (1) – Both of New Trier’s basketball teams were off …

North Basketball Jumps Two Spots to No. 9

Check out Patch Basketball Rankings for the week.

Patch sports reporter Ross Jacobson ranks the North Shore’s basketball teams. Basketball teams got their last games in before participating in holiday tournaments over the next two weeks. New Trier and Maine South have separated themselves so far as the two schools with above-average boys and girls teams, but the next four aren’t too far off. Glenbrook North, Evanston, Niles North and Deerfield all jumped two spots from last week while Highland Park had the biggest drop, going from seventh to 11th. Last week’s ranking is in parentheses. WEEK 5 RANKINGS 1. New Trier  (1) – New Trier’s 54-53 win over Waukegan showed they have the ability to win tough games on the road. Yet Waukegan’s effort also means New Trier is anything but invincible. …

Patch's Basketball Rankings - Week 4

Niles West remained at No. 3 in this week's power rankings.

Patch sports reporter Ross Jacobson ranks the North Shore’s basketball teams. All the talk at the start of the girls season was about the three-team race for the CSL South title between Niles West, Maine South and New Trier. Yet in mid-December, the last remaining undefeated team is Glenbrook South. New Trier still seems to be the class of the CSL on the boys side, especially after Glenbrook North fell to Deerfield last week. Maine South jumped up to No. 2 and is our biggest riser this week. Meanwhile Glenbrook North fell down to No. 5. Last week’s ranking is in parentheses. WEEK 3 RANKINGS 1. New Trier  (1) – The boys took care of their first two CSL South games by easily dispatching of Niles West and Glenbrook South last week. But the …

Patch's Basketball Rankings - Week 3

Niles West moved up a spot after the Wolves swept their series against Niles North.

Patch sports reporter Ross Jacobson ranks the North Shore’s basketball teams. December brings Christmas music, the real threat of snow flurries and, of course, conference games for high school basketball. New Trier remains on top after the girls team beat Maine South for their first victory in the CSL South, but the Trevians are far from invincible with the boys team losing to Warren. On the boys side, Evanston edged Maine South on a last-minute layup while Niles North and Niles West had another couple of entertaining games in their annual early-season rivalry series.   Last week’s ranking is in parentheses. WEEK 3 RANKINGS 1. New Trier  (1) – The boys lost their first game of the season against Warren -- ranked No. 2 in the state – but …
