Following a disruptive pep rally at Niles West High School, school administration recently made changes to this year's prom, making some students question whether or not they want to attend.
Due to the actions of a group of Niles West seniors, everyone attending Niles West High School's prom will face stricter conditions. The move comes after a disruptive pep rally held at the school on April 19, where tires were thrown through the rally floor and silly string and noise reached such a point of disrespect that principal Kaine Osburn ended the day's activities early. Now, all juniors and seniors are being punished, even those that did not attend. "My daughter was in Springfield at [the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America] competition," said Niles West parent Wendy Yablon. "She is sadly suffering for the acts of others. She's not even sure she wants to go anymore because of it all." When Patch told Yablon that other…

So, who won Pizza Wars 3? Was it Lincolnwood's Lou Malnati's? Or maybe Morton Grove-based Pequod's. Maybe, just maybe, a Skokie based business took home the coveted prize.
Pizza Wars 3 was a jam-packed success. The event, which started at 6 p.m. on Thursday, was held at Niles West High School. Within half-an-hour of kicking off, there was a line outside the building and some 800 tickets were already purchased. Hosted by District 219's Education Foundation for Excellence, Pizza Wars has come a long way from its humble beginnings. But who won Pizza Wars 3? More than a dozen restaurants competed - some from as far as Wheeling - but in the end, it was downtown Skokie's very own Village Inn. "After three years, it feels great to finally bring home the 'bacon,'" said Village Inn owner Randy Miles. "It's nice, you know. I feel vindicated after not winning the last two years." Last year, Jet's Pizza brought home the…

Two hair stylists in Skokie talk about security precautions - such as keeping their doors locked at all times - after the hair salon bandit robbed three area salons in a two-week span.
Despite the store being open, walk up to Hair Cuttery in Village Crossing and expect the doors to be locked. It's a security precaution the employees have taken since the hair salon bandit has robbed three area salons - two in Skokie, one in Niles - in two weeks. "We started locking our doors on Monday," said Hair Cuttery stylist Dyana Kheyo, 22. "We're terrified. Our customers are terrified. They know what's been going on. It's been all over the news." While the door was locked, both employees opened it with a smile after realizing this reporter wasn't there to rob them. "It's just a precaution," said stylist Molly Kobylt, 24. "We know he uses a gun. We know he's robbed eight salons already. Yeah, he hasn't been violent, but who's to say …

The young Girl Scout entrepreneurs learn key business skills that carry them into adulthood. Skokie resident and troop leader Amanda Lorenz said training her scouts to sell the cookies is part of the fun. “We practice how they are going to talk to people, help them set a goal for themselves and figure out together how to count up the money and what to do with it,” Lorenz said. “Part of Girl Scout law is being courteous to other people and be responsible to what you say.” Lorenz’s group consists of 11 girls, one of which is …
