Pregnant manager was so nervous she 'punched the alarm three times.'
Edens Bank, 5256 Dempster St., was robbed Wednesday. It marked the second bank robbery in Skokie in less than a month. According to police, the suspect entered the bank about 4 p.m. and originally asked a teller for some information on opening an account. He then left the bank, returned one minute later and approached the bank manager quietly. Police said the robber told the manager "to relax" as he placed "something into her side with his hand." The manager told the suspect that she was "too nervous to open the bank vault," which prompted a reply of "I know you're pregnant so I won't hurt you," according to the police report. Mixed feelings greet new alert service as police roll out Nixle.
On July 28, the Skokie Police Department sent out a text mesage alert that Andia Ymeraj, 22, was missing. It included details such as her height, weight and where she was last seen. Several hours later, the department sent out another notice that said Ymeraj was located. The effort was part of the department's newly adopted Nixle messaging service, designed to alert residents to important happenings in the community. "The text messages seek out citizens instead of citizens looking for information," said Anthony Scarpelli, Skokie's deputy police chief. "It is a means by which we can get information out quickly."
