Pizza Wars 3: The Official Numbers

It’s been six days since Pizza Wars 3 concluded. The winner for 2013, Village Inn, had some strong competitors. See additional results here.

Pizza Wars 3 almost doubled their 2012 donations of $4,300 on Jan. 18. While it was initially thought that the group raised close to $10,000, the final number was actually closer to about $8,500, according to District 219 Education Foundation board member Alyse Burman. While Village Inn took home first place honors, Father & Son Italian Kitchen’s dessert pizza took home second place. Their “pizza” had blueberries and cranberries over toffee streusel and a sweet cream cheese base. It was delicious.   Coming in third place was Lincolnwood’s Lou Malnati’s Pizza  and Pequod’s coming in a very close fourth place. The proceeds raised from Pizza Wars 3 will benefit the student’s at District 219 in the form of calculators, refurbished computers, …

TONIGHT: Pizza Wars 3 is Happening

Last year, Jet's Pizza took home the prize as best pizza in the Skokie, Niles, Morton Grove and Lincolnwood area. Pizza Wars 3 is happening tonight at Niles West High School.

Of the following, who do you think has the best pizza?  Indeed, it's a tough call. Some have better deep dish pizza while others excel with their thin crust. Now in it's third year, Pizza Wars 3 is happening tonight, Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Niles West High School cafeteria, 5701 Oakton St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  With the contenders set, one question remains to be answered by the community: What pizza will be tossed the trophy as the Pizza Wars 3 champion? From thick, thin, cheesy, crispy, spicy or savory, the ‘people’ will choose who takes the title from last year's winner, Jet’s Pizza. The District 219 Education Foundation for Excellence, with the help of the Student Organization Dance Marathon, will be hosting the third annual Pizza …

Pizza Wars! Crowns Jet's Best Pizza in Town

Area eateries competed Thursday night in an effort to raise funds to help needy students at Niles North and Niles West High School.

Traci-Larson Lee juggles a lot of things as a mother of five. From hosting an Italian exchange student at her home to rescuing local troubled dogs to working full-time at her job at nonprofit AFS-USA. Yet among her many goals is helping hungry and homeless students at Niles North and Niles West High School through District 219's Education Foundation for Excellence. The Education Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization that aims to provide additional resources outside the scope of the regular school district budget. When brainstorming for creative ideas to generate funds to help hungry students, Lee came up with the idea of Pizza Wars! nearly two years ago. Fast forward to today, and the center of the pizza world was at Niles West…

Return of the Pizza Wars!

A dozen local pizza shops will raise money for charity during the second annual Pizza Wars on Jan. 19.

In an epic battle of cheesiness, local pizzerias will face off in the second annual “Pizza Wars” at Niles West High School on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m.   The event will be held at the cafeteria in Niles West High School, 5701 Oakton St. Last year, Pequod's Pizza took home the honors of being crowned "Best Pizza." To see last year's coverage of the event, click here. The charitable event will be hosted by the District 219 Education Foundation for Excellence. The Education Foundation provides a variety of support and outreach to local students. Last month, Skokie Patch covered the story Hungry Students Working More, Studying Less, where the Education Foundation was cited as providing food to students who didn't have enough money to eat…

I'm very surprised to see that Nano's in Morton Grove was left off the list this year along with Giordano's? Maybe next year as these are surely worthy of competition.   more ›
