Duo Steals 99-Cent Drink, Lead Police On High-Speed Chase

Two men led police on a chase through Skokie and Evanston after allegedly stealing a 99-cent bottle of Lipton Iced Tea on Wednesday. The pair would later tell police they took the drink because the clerk didn't have change.

A Lincolnwood man, who allegedly stole a 99-cent Lipton Iced Tea, caused a 'brisk' police chase through Skokie and Evanston on Wednesday around 1 a.m. Bahroze Hussain, 20, entered BP gas station, 3301 Dempster St., with friend Ricardo Matthews to purchase a drink. But when the clerk told the pair he didn't have change for a $20 bill, the duo decided to leave without paying. A Skokie squad car happened to be outside the gas station as the two exited the store. According to police, the clerk ran out and began yelling to police that Hussain and Matthews had stolen something from inside. Police Chase Runs Through Skokie, Ends in Winnetka

A man wanted for armed robbery in McHenry County led police on a chase from Skokie to Winnetka. He was stopped in a parking garage after a short foot chase.

A suspect in an armed robbery in McHenry County led police on a high-speed chase from Skokie to Winnetka Friday morning, police said. The chase ended in his arrest and there were no accidents or injuries. The man was spotted in Skokie and fled. He was pursued by police who put out a call that there was a police chase happening northbound on the Edens, Winnetka Police Chief Patrick Kreis said. He did not know the man's name or the details of the robbery he is wanted for. The man exited the highway at Lake Avenue in Wilmette and then headed north via Ridge, Church and Green Bay roads in Winnetka, Kreis said. NEW DETAILS: Police Charge Surviving Offender in Fatal Carjacking, Bond Set at $300K

Crystal Perez was charged April 13 with kidnapping and hijacking.

Updated at 3:00 p.m., April 14 The surviving offender of a March 30 carjacking and kidnapping that left one person dead and another injured was charged April 13,  according to Glenview Police officials. Following a police investigation, Crystal Perez, of Park Drive in Glenview, was implicated in the carjacking of a man at knife point, police said yesterday afternoon. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved the charges—one count of aggravated kidnapping and one county of aggravated vehicular hijacking—according to a news release. Initially, police did not anticipate any charges would be made but after an investigation that revealed several holes in Perez's interview following the incident, things took a different direction, …
