Police responded to an aggravated battery complaint in the 8300 block of Keating Avenue around 11 p.m. in Skokie.
Officers responded to an aggravated battery in the 8300 block of Keating Avenue in Skokie around 11 p.m. According to police, the victim was playing pool at his apartment when he heard a loud noise coming from the basement. When he went to investigate, he saw that the door had been forced open and his friend wrestling with an unknown offender. A second suspect would soon enter the basement and point a gun at the victim while his friend struggled with the first offender, police said. It was at that point that the resident pushed the pistol away from the offender. Both suspects would then flee the scene. The victim’s friend sustained a minor head injury. A man was placed in a chokehold while a second offender robbed him at gunpoint in Skokie on March 8.
A man looking to purchase an item from Craigslist was instead robbed on March 8 around 5:45 p.m. According to police, the victim was driving his car in the 5200 block of Carol Street and stopped to answer a call. At that point, one offender approached the driver’s side window and stated he needed help. The driver rolled down his window and the offender then unlocked the vehicle's rear door and made entry. He then placed the victim in a chokehold, police said. A second offender would soon enter the vehicle through the passenger side door and point a handgun at the victim. A man was robbed at gunpoint after meeting someone known to him to purchase drugs in Skokie on Sunday.
Police responded to an aggravated robbery in the 9500 block of Lavergne Avenue on Feb. 24 at 10:45 p.m. According to police, two individuals were meeting up with someone known to them to purchase marijuana. When they arrived at the dealer's residence, however, the offender held the duo up at gunpoint, stealing one of victim's wallet, which contained cash and several credit cards. The suspect was described as a black male, about 6-feet-tall, 170-pounds, 19 to 24-years-of-age, wearing jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, black jacket and a scarf that covered his face, police said. A 73-year-old man that robbed a Niles bank told police that he wanted to go back to prison because he felt most comfortable there, the Associated Press reported.
Seventy-three-year-old Walter Unbehaun has six months to live. So, the South Carolina man who uses a cane to walk decided it would be best to serve his final days behind prison, at least according to a story by the Associated Press. Unbehaun, who had spent most of his life behind bars, said he was hoping he would get caught. Unbehaun told investigators that he had spent the majority of his life in prison and "felt more comfortable in prison than out," according to the AP. Unbehaun served 10 years for a 1998 bank robbery and committed many other felonies, according to the AP. Unbehaun made a court appearance Monday before U.S. Magistrate Geraldine Soat, according to an FBI statement, and remains in federal custody pending his next court …

Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday morning at a Lincoln Park Great Clips. The incident is the second of its kind in an eight-day time span in the Chicagoland area. Skokie and Niles have seen similar robberies, too.
Chicago police were investigating a second hair salon robbery in an eight-day time frame Tuesday afternoon that occurred that morning in Lincoln Park. The incident, which took place around 9:50 a.m. at Great Clips, 1005 W. Webster Ave., Chicago, involved a 200-plus pound Hispanic suspect clad in a red jacket and grey scarf who police estimate stands between 6 feet and 6 feet, 2 inches tall. Brandishing a handgun, he walked into the salon and demanded money, according to Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. "He then fled on foot," Zala said, adding that no injuries were reported in connection with the crime. The offender got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. A Great Clips in Chicago was robbed Monday around 10:10 a.m. This comes after several hair salons in Skokie and Niles were robbed.
Updated 11:43 p.m. - A Great Clips in Chicago was robbed at gunpoint on Monday, police said. The robber entered the salon at 1235 N. Clybourn at 10:10 a.m., pointed a black handgun at the stylists and demanded she put money in his backpack. The offender then fled the scene westbound, an officer at Chicago News Affairs said. The man was wearing a red puffy coat, red jacket and a skullcap, police said. Police believe this individual is the same person that robbed two hair salons in Lincoln Park in December. The Great Clips robbery is also similar to those of recent weeks in surrounding suburbs such as Skokie and Niles. A close to 300 pound man wearing heels stole money and a cell phone from an Arlington Heights man over the weekend in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. Chicago police responded to a call in the 3700 block of N. Fremont St. on Saturday, Jan. 12 near where the 23-year-old Arlington Heights resident was reportedly threatened with a baton and robbed by an unknown suspect. According to the police report, the victim was walking away from a bar on Addison St. when the suspect approached him and asked, “Where are you going? Where do you live? Two hair stylists in Skokie talk about security precautions - such as keeping their doors locked at all times - after the hair salon bandit robbed three area salons in a two-week span.
Despite the store being open, walk up to Hair Cuttery in Village Crossing and expect the doors to be locked. It's a security precaution the employees have taken since the hair salon bandit has robbed three area salons - two in Skokie, one in Niles - in two weeks. "We started locking our doors on Monday," said Hair Cuttery stylist Dyana Kheyo, 22. "We're terrified. Our customers are terrified. They know what's been going on. It's been all over the news." Skokie has seen two armed robberies targeting hair salons over the last two weeks. Police believe the same man is responsible for about a dozen similar crimes that took place in Niles, Morton Grove and several other areas.
Two Skokie hair salons have been robbed at gunpoint in two weeks, and police believe one man is responsible for both crimes, they announced today. Officers responded to an armed robbery call at Supercuts, 3539 Dempster St., on Jan. 10 around 12:25 p.m. The suspect entered the hair salon, displayed a black revolver and demanded money, police said. The offender would soon flee in an unknown direction. It is unclear at this time how much money the man stole and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Man robbed outside hotel A man was robbed of a $120 outside a hotel in the 9300 block of Skokie Boulevard on Jan. 4. According to the report, the victim parked his car outside of the hotel and was approached by a female that became “friendly” to him, the report stated. He was then approached by a man who said, “Why are you talking to my girlfriend? Give me your money,” according to the report.
